Painted Interior Pillars and Accessories Black

I have an '02 Max with black leather interior, and decided It would look better with the interior pillars, Bose sub cover, overhead accessories, and holy **** handles painted black. Lo and behold, I was right. As you all know, these parts are plastic, and it can be hard to to get paint to stick and look nice on plastic. I did some research and found a nifty product called Krylon Fusion. It is supposed to adhere to plastic with no need for priming or adhesion promoters. I simply washed all the parts, lightly sanded them with 400 grit paper(Krylon claims you don't even have to do that, but I did anyway for good measure), and sprayed away! The results: it looks amazing and seems to hold up really well. Krylon claims that peak chip resistance won't be achieved 'til about 5-7 days after spraying, but I felt confident enough to install the parts less than 24 hours after painting. My first impressions of this paint are all excellent. Super-fast drying time, looks great, and seems to stick to plastic really really well. Here are some pics of the painting process (sorry, the first ones are cellphone pics)....

-I'll be posting better pics of all the parts installed later today, including the map light console. (no pic of that yet)

Installed pics will be up later today!!!

It looks good but I think it would look more "complete" with headliner black also, yet to see someone do that.

Ya I agree, I think a black suede headliner would look dope and really make you interior pop.

My Grand Prix has the same two tone effect. I've been thinking about going black up top too. This helps me see how it would look Nice job

Yeah, I'm thinking I might do the headliner sometime... I'm still trying to decide what the best way to do that would be... The problem with that is that I would then have to cover the sun visors, sunroof cover, and paint all the little tan pieces that really wouldn't paint all that well (like where the seatbelts constantly rub, and where the sun visors have that little plastic extention)... I'm not going to rule it out, but for now, the 2-tone looks really good. Nothing wrong with a little black on light
Oh and that decal in the back window was put on by my wife's little sister. That's why it's backwards..
I assume you can get that paint at a lot of places... I personally found it at Walmart. I got the flat black and it's still fairly shiny, so you should go with that unless you really want a gloss look.

-If anyone has any ideas on how to do the headliner in a classy, good-looking way, I'm all ears

Looks good, nice work. I'm in the process of wrapping my pillars and rear deck. I'm gonna wait till spring to pull the headliner and everything down. I'll probably do what you did with the handles, map, dome, etc... with the Fusion paint. Do they have a flat black though? I did my tweeter grilles in flat black but just regular duplicolor paint and they came out nice.

Yeah, the Krylon Fusion comes in flat black... but it still is somewhat shiny. Looks good though
I think I'll probably end up wrapping my headliner and sun visors... I don't know what to wrap them with though... might just find an inexpensive faux-suede type fabric... and the sun visors seem like they'll be a tricky job.

Ok,
so I've officially decided to recover the headliner, sunroof visor, and sunvisors in BLACK!!! I found a good inexpensive fabric that I'm simply going to put over the existing fabric. I plan on doing a write-up/how-to, so watch for it And of course I'll paint most, if not all remaining tan pieces black.

Yeeeaaaahh, That's the ONE part I still don't know how to get black! I don't know if the constant friction there is going to cause the paint to wear off... ... any ideas???

I recovered my rear deck panel with black carpet and painted all of the plastic parts with the Fusion paint over 2 years ago and I have two children (seatbelts used a lot). The paint is still adhering to the plastic as it did the day I painted it. No wear marks at all...

This is when it was done:

The custom woofer grill has since then compeltely been carpeted as well.

uses a couple of coats of matte clear coat over the black for extra protection of the paint

Suede headliners are sick, I would go that route rather than die the headliner like some people have done. Im having my headliner and visors done in suede, I'll post pics when its done.

Jowo, now you need to get some nice custom seats from Leatherseats.com that will make your interior really stand out.

P.S. - My Krylon Fusion paint is holding up marvellously

maybe its just the flash but it looks really glossy and the texture maybe reflected it badly.

Everything else looks clean though, regardless of your headliner. :P
