Fuel filter. Make sure the tutorial is for a 2000 or 2001 as the FF assembly is in the tank versus on the firewall as in the fourth gen.

i changed my fuel filter at 103k miles and absolutely nothing changed. Oh wait, my gas mileage went down. Save yourself time and don't bother unless you have some fuel related issue, as the filters are rated for lifetime.

Yeah, lifetime filter. Thats HYSTERICAL! Unless installed incorrectly it cant hurt anything. Period.

Its not a hard job. Go slow and make sure you buy the gasket too for the lid. Dont let the nay sayers convince you otherwise.

I agree. Made a difference on start up and power when I changed mine yesterday w. 173K on the clock. Not bad for a few dollars and 30 min worth of time.
I laughed every time the dealers kept telling me its "non serviceable" when i called around looking for a filter.

the sock you're talking about is a filter strainer, commonly found by the bottom of the fuel pump assembly, but the filter, it's inside that pump assembly, wondering what a pain to do, however, you guys are correct, it's hard to find the filter to buy and yet call around, I work at Autozone and I noticed the filter is not available on the Maxima, I thought Bullsh*t it has to be one despite "non servicable" item on the owner's manual

There is no sock on the 00-01 fuel filter.

Its not that hard to do, one just needs to take their time as they are dealing with fuel and vapors.

You get the filter and gasket from DaveB for about 35 bucks.

There is a sock on my 01 on the inlet of the fuel pump. Which I found to be quite dirty on mine...which made me feel alot better I was spending time and money changing the filter!
