Black Paint Upkeep & Product Suggestions
Black Paint Upkeep & Product Suggestions
Hey guys. I've searched, but can't seem to find anything on keeping black paint black.
My car is showing its age because the finish is very dull. My neighbor has a black 1998 Ford Taurus that looks wet all the time because its so shiny. I hate parking next to him because even if I've spent all day waxing/polishing my car, his looks so much better. He says he just waxes it once a month, but I do the same.
Any suggestions? I want my nice mirror finish back.

All Meguiars.
Wash properly (Gold Class Wash - feels like shampoo)
Dry properly (waffle weave towels)
Clay bar system
Use scratchX 2.0 or Ultimate Compound on defect areas
Wax / Sealant (Gold Class, which is a true wax for deep, but not long lasting shine and/or NXT 2.0, which is a sealant for decent shine and durability)
Tires, Black Plastics (Natural or Supreme Shine protectant applied by applicator pad)
Wheels (wash like car, clay and wax like car)
Headlights (PlasticX and if you can get a hold of it, their pro line Clear Plastic Polish)
I'm a lurker on here, but there is so much to learn and awesome restorations to view:

I am thinking of getting it repainted because of some rock chips and an in law that got a little too close with her altma.
