sunroof controls

I'm at a bit of a loss here for how to operating the sunroof. I've owned two other maximas, both of them were third gens. On those you simply held down the button until it was at the position you want.

On the 5th gen I have a slider switch that doesn't seem to do anything and then a button that makes the sun roof move like 3 inches and it stops. I then have to release and hold it down again for like another 2 or three inches. Repeating this process until it is all the way open. Did I miss something or is my sunroof just broken?

I'll assume that sunroof operates the same as the 5.5 gen that I have, the first switch is for full auto open. (yours sounds like the track may need some greasing as it should not stop part way) the other switch at least on mine simple pops the back end to the open position about an 1 1/2" open tilt.

I would try apply some grease along the full length of the track to see if that helps your auto open.

thanks for the info, what kind of grease should I get? Is this something I can pickup at my local autozone?

You need to reset your sunroof. There are multiple threads on here about it. The process is different for the 5.5 Gen vs. the 5th Gen, so make sure you're reading about the right Gen.

Once reset, the "full" button will operate the tilt function of your sunroof. The other button will operate the slide function - with a full press (indicated by a click feeling) will fully open/close the roof automatically.

Yes you can get it at any local auto supply store, just a light weight grease usually in a small tub or tube, (you don't want a spray on) so one you can apply with your fingers.

I was able to reset my sunroof, but it looks like it will definitely need some grease. It was struggling big time to open and close which is probably the reason it needed the reset in the first place. Thanks again the help

it needed to be reset because the battery was disconnected and the reset was never done after.

I cleaned out the tracks today with some paper towels, used some lithium grease I found at autozone and now the sunroof is working like new
