Blacked out stock rims

I have been meaning to throw up some pictures of these for a while. I picked up a set of 350z rims so i decided to paint my stock rims matte black and use them in the winter because of the taller sidewall.

I used a wire wheel brush hooked up to my drill and soapy water to prep the surfaces as well as some steel wool. For paint i used a matte black enamel paint designed to be used on outdoor patio furniture. I went and looked at the home depot site and the closest thing i could find was this

anyway, here is the final product.

Did they come out gray, or is it just the picture?

I've used the high heat BBQ paint before and recall a much deeper black.

BTW, semi-gloss and gloss paints clean up much easier; I had a set of matte, but not flat black wheel before.

Overall, I like the black on silver.

I think they overexposed a little bit, it was just the camera on my phone too. They pretty closely match the color of the tires which is what i was going for and you can see on the shot of the whole car.

It took me a total of about 3 hours of work between prep and painting and they show not signs of peeling/chipping after one season

There was almost no cleanup, I just painted them over a trash bag in my garage

As winter rims go, that's a far better look than my steelies, for sure.

Say, are those ATE slots? I've never seen those on a car before. They're pretty interesting looking.

I am pretty happy with how they turned out. I just didnt want to ruin on of my Z rims on a pothole. I have a subaru for when it is really snowy

yes they are ATE rotors, so far i have put about 15k on them. They stop well and no warping at all with hawk hps pads

I meant the clean-up of dirt from the wheels rather than the clean-up of the paint itself. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

They look ok if you are just using them for winter........i would get some clear coat though. Not a bad idea though, something different to try. Nothing wrong with that!!!!

No seriously, i don't understand what he was getting at. Why would painting my rims mean i need to park a foot away from the curb now?

False. Steelies are an appropriate winter look.. Flat black rims are, and this is my 2 cents.. a ricer look.

Keep your steelies!

If you hit the curb with any rim it's going to take the paint off no matter how it's painted. I would be more apt to "park a good foot away from curbs" with my summer rims, I actually care about them. But I don't really need to worry about that because I'm not a shi**y driver i'm not going to put any of my rims on any of my cars into the curb.

"False", then "my 2 cents", then "ricer look"... all in the same statement? Craig, you're giving me manic depressive whiplash.

Steelies might look appropriate, but that doesn't mean aluminum winter rims wouldn't look better, painted black or otherwise. Although it's not something I would do intentionally.

Did you paint the rims with the tread still on? I'd like to black out mine, too, but it seems like it would be a huge inconvenience to have to take the tires off.

I can only imagine - I've only got one spare, so I'd have to take off one wheel at a time, take it to Discount Tire, have the tire removed, take it back home, paint it, let it dry, take it back to the store to get it put back on. Repeat 3 F***ing times. Not happening.

All you gotta do is go get some index cards and stick them between the tire and the rim like this
I just painted my rims this way, but i still stuck some old towels on the tires just to be sure no paint got on them, but they turned out awesome. so no need to go back and forth

Does anyone have a set of rims and tires for a 2001 Maxima? They can be curb rashed up a bit. The tires can be half worn as well. I need a low low price for the set. I want to take mine off before the car goes to the salvage yard. I can arrange pick up anywhere. Let em know where you are , PM me pics of the rims, (all 4 ) and what price you could let them go for.
Thanks

I'm very intrested in seeing some stock 6 spoke rims painted white. Never seen a maxima with white on white.
