Introducing myself...just bought a Maxima

Hello, my name is John...and I am a Maxima owner.

I drove to Memphis last weekend to pick up my 2002 Blk/blk leather 6spd SE from sjsamuel who had the car posted here. I would attach pictures but my wife took the digital camera for the weekend, but it is still listed in the classifieds I believe if you want to see it. So far, I love the car and I am very pleased with my purchase.

So a bit about how I got here. My father is an engineer at Nissan, and therefore it is the only brand I have ever owned. I have previously had a '01 Altima SE, '89 Hardbody 4x4, and a '90 300zx TT. My wife currently drives an '02 Altima SE V6 as well (and a manual at that)! I have come to that point in my life where we have decided to start a family. I previously had the truck as my daily driver (selling it this weekend) and the 300zx as my fun car. Well, having a 2 seat sports car and a 20 year old truck is not a good combo when starting a family, so the deal was to sell the Z and the truck and get something in the middle.

I wanted the VQ motor and a manual, so it was 02+ Altima, Maxima, G35 time. It quickly turned out the G35 didn't make sense financially and we already had an Altima, so the choice was easy. I chose the 02-03 because I can't afford a 7th gen and I like the looks/interior fit and finish of the 5.5 gen better than the 6th.

I enjoy working on cars and look forward to performing some tasteful mods to this car. All the work on the Z was done by me and in the end it had around 400rwhp. It nicely balanced my truck that goes 0-60 in the 18sec. range!

I always try my best to search about a topic before starting a new thread so if I do ask a question, know that I tried to find a clear answer first. If anybody actually read this far, thank you and know that I hope to be a contributing party to this wonderful forum!

I too just bought a 6spd 2002 Maxima this month. I absolutely love it, although it does need some well deserved maintenance. Glad to see another owner hit the forums. I look forward to seeing what kind of mods you do to your Maxima

Welcome. You sure aren't shy for words.

Good choice on the Maxima. It's nice to read where someone researched their purchase enough to target a very particular model year.

I appreciate the warm welcomes from everybody.

Rochester-I can get a bit wordy at times, but my intentions are always good, and typically for every post I make like that, I have read about ten times as many threads. I have been going through the FAQ/HOW TO stickies for the last couple of days already.

Right now the plans for mods is pretty basic and I will start a build thread when I get funds and get things started up in a couple of months so people can track my cars progress from as it sits now.

I also understand the desire for pics, and I will get some of the Maxima on Sunday. Until then, here is one of my two previous vehicles (you can see some of the truck in the picture so it counts).

The Z I loved. It had a 99 JSPEC front fascia that I shaved the license plate bracket on, 350z seats, G35 track wheels, a Stillen rear valance modified for single exhaust (never painted or mounted before selling though), Imported 5zigen Fireball single exit exhaust, Downpipes and testpipes, Imported ARC blow-off valves, Greddy SMIC, JWT dual maf/dual pop, NISMO 720cc injectors, JWT tune, SAFC II, AVCR, Racelogic Traction Control, Koyo radiator, Underdrive Pulley & Water pump overdrive pulley, electric fan, 1 pc. driveshaft, JWT light wt. flywheel, JWT sport clutch, STS, replaced ALL bushings with ES, Stillen front and rear upper control arms, Stillen sway bars, Rear Under Ladder Bar, Blue LED interior lights, NISMO steering wheel (the real deal-not an e-bay knockoff), a custom stereo with a ported sub built by myself, plus many more tiny mods that aren't worth typing. NOTE: the 350z seats were recovered in black leather with red stitching to match the 99' JSPEC shift boot and e-brake boot.

Me too. Kind of a sled without the twin-turbo option, but who cares!? The design was timeless. Much in the way the 928 continues to look sleek and contemporary, the 300Z has always appealed to me.

Here are pics of my Max. It is currently stock and very clean minus the bumper issue. Sorry the pics are so big, but I got a new SLR camera and I have to figure out how to re-size.

Welcome.

How did I miss this 6MT in the classifieds? Oh well...good to see some more Maxima enthusiasts actually exist in the Nashville area.

You know they did. It is an awesome feature when I run lights with traffic cameras! HONEST ANSWER: Putting that there was easier than photoshopping the pics.

SIDE NOTE: Does anyone know if the best way to resize is through the photo hosting site (photobucket in this case)? Most sites I have been to auto-resize, I didn't realize this one didn't until after posting these and a listing in classifieds.

Welcome and I just got the same car, except silver. 90k miles on mine.

What is the option to the upper right of the power mirror switch, beside the dimmer, on the dash?

Mine has all the other options but that one is not present on my car.

Welcome to the org!

Very nice find. If you don't mind I ask, how much did you pay for it?

I get more and more jealous watching all these people find loaded 6mt cars, while im still riding in a gle.

The previous owner hardwired in controls for a Escort Passport radar detector. That is what you see.

I got it for slightly less than the asking price sjsamuel had listed in the classifieds here. It was a good deal for what I wanted and what I got. It is hard to find blk/blk/6spd in these cars.

Actually the opposite is true, since you're messing with image files already. But you're not the first one to physically cover their tags. However, you may be the first one to use an empty saltines box.

Re-size your images locally before putting them on your web host. Just about any image editing tool will support that feature. For PhotoShop-like power, use the freeware OpenSource tool GIMP-2.

As things stand, your file-sizes are huge, slowing down page rendering. And the image resolutions are huge, which screws up page presentation. Stylistically, the images are so dark as to be pretty much useless. Content wise... well, that's just awesome, because we all love Maximas.

[edited] advice taken, images resized. Shocked! Well done, OP.

Well the wife loves saltines enough that I had an empty box lying around and it was easier to block it than photoshop at the time (though I did think about turning the box around so it was just brown). The pictures ARE huge, I feel bad about it here, but I think it actually is hurting my "For Sale" thread in the Electronics section. I may try and resize and edit the post with the smaller photos. Sorry about the dark pictures, people were asking to see the car, and those pictures were an afterthought as I was taking photos of the stuff for sale.

I will try and get it fixed, and if I can't here, I'll make sure it's good before I do it in the future!

Thanks, I plan to start a build log to track progress as I go along. I will make sure I get daytime pics and get them re-sized before posting in the future. I know how to do that through photobucket, but didn't know this forum didn't do it automatically which I have been spoiled with and gotten used to.

IMO, 800px width is reasonable. There might even be a forum rule about it somewhere... IDK. Either way, it's nice to see someone learn quickly, without freaking out for the advice. Well done, OP.

Thanks. I also saw where photobucket has the ability to do minor editing (per your recommendation), so I will just blur my plate in the future instead of going the saltine route! Is 800px still larger than what most use on this forum? I would like to know before I start a build log in for future mods.

This thread really has been a chance to show my car off and learn a bit about the forum. Thanks again to all for the compliments and feedback.

I think we get that.

Just use common sense with imagery... 800px width is probably max when showcasing something because of the visual appeal. 400px - 500px when using an image as a talking point in the conversation. But I'm pulling these numbers out of thin air. Like I said... common sense.

Takes two seconds using the eraser in MS paint...

Nice car, wish I could have found a 6 speed car but the meter was running on the rental (previous car was totaled, insurance doesn't have to pay for a rental once the car is considered a total even if they haven't paid you off) so I found the nicest grey lustre 4AT I could.
