wheel hop

My car had always had some wheel hop. But it seems to be getting much worse. To the point that when im spinning in the snow i can feel the wheels hopping. I know there are bushings you can replace to help eliminate some but i just dont know which ones to replace and with what. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You need to replace your motor mounts. You can go with ES polyurethane bushings or OEM bushings for the mounts. The ES will be a bit stiffer.

Sway bar bushings won't stop wheel hop. They reduce body roll under hard cornering.

You need the ES motor mounts and bushings that go into them. You can invest in one of NWP's engine braces too, if you'd want. But that's a little overkill for daily driving.

All the other ES bushing will help to tighten ones steering components, but to get ride of the wheel hop swap the stock engine mounts for some ES bushing and send all the torque to the wheel and ground ... one of my favorite mods. there are lots of very good threads with great info and pic's

Boy, you're just rolling through this forum aren't you?

How do the ES mounts feel, and how much did you end up spending when you ordered them? I was looking at getting them so I could drop my engine down a bit.

You need the 23 mm if you have an SE. Order them from Cattman here on the org.

Got it, thanks for the heads up.

By the way, I was just playing about you posting in all the threads.

It's his new sig photo... he's showing off

OP, after 5-6 years on OEM engine mount bushings, and a steady increase in HP with annual mods, my Maxima had horrible wheel-hop. High quality summer tires helped a lot, but it gradually came back to where I had to baby the throttle all the time in the lower gears. It was making me miserable.

I finally swapped out the mount bushings for solid polyurethane from ES. The hop immediately disappeared and hasn't come back since. The car is planted. Wish I had done it sooner.

I have the ES motor mount inserts, and I still have some wheel hop. If I punch it in first, it still hops a little, but the motor mounts significantly reduced it.

That's odd, what with your limited slip diff and all.

You're ordering Motor Mount bushings, not mounts themselves. Specifically, you're ordering bushings for the Torque Mounts.

The FSB bushings are really inexpensive, so might as well, even though your originals are probably fine. It's just a sway bar.

However, ES also sells the bushings between the front mount and the frame. If you're replacing the mount bushings, replace these as well.

I still have a bit of wheel hop myself with the bushings, but way way less than stock was. even with the HLSD.

I think I have too much unsprung weight.

Yeah, it's probably because I'm riding on Eibach's with stock struts.

That's got to be it.

I'm riding on stock springs with stock SE Tokico struts. However, next month those struts will get swapped out for Tokico HP Blues. I would be really bummed if wheel hop were re-introduced, but I highly doubt it. The springs appear to be the major contributing factor in these differences.

Yeah, I plan on getting Illumina's in the near future.

There should be virtually no wheel hop once I get those in there and set them to 5.

Can't get much stiffer than Eibach's with Illumina's and es motor mount inserts. lol

Oh, I bet you could. Get that NWP Torque Link Connector.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Rochester, but I'll have to order two of the Motor Mount Bushings? So it should run me about $200 with the subframe and motor mount bushings.

I'm pretty sure that's incorrect, and that the torque mount bushings come as a pair. I paid Cattman $125 a year ago for both mount and sub-frame bushings. (Of course, then I paid my mechanic for installation.)

Call Brian Catts. He might be able to save you a few dollars over buying them from EnergySuspensionParts.com. Or maybe it's a wash, IDK. But give him a call. He's an incredibly helpful and pleasant guy.

Yeah, I've done business with Brian before. He's a good guy.

I'll probably look into getting them from him even if it's a few bucks more. I'd rather support the .org vendors when possible than buying from other places.

Thanks for clearing things up.
