glare city in the 01 housings...
:mrgone: |
Are you gonna retrofit some projectors in there?
|
|
:rotz:
:mrgone: |
did you order dual or single lighting?
|
dual?meaning high beam and low beam?
|
Make sure you modify your turn signal lenses to clear. The light fixtures will look great then. The modification is easy costs about 15 bucks but takes 2 hours total.
|
I had 8k HIDs in my 01 housing originally. Had to remove the HID's completely because of awful glare. I was getting flashed by other drivers constantly. I thought it might have been just the 8k, so I got 6k, same thing. The high beams on these kits suck a$$! There are no option for bi-xenon for 00-01 housings, that I know of.
I have since used the ballasts from the HID kit on my fogs. |
the ones im getting are just low beam......i dont need hi/lo beam but if anyone wants some go visit ddmtuning.com they have them!!!!!
|
ok still tryin to learn a little before i do my retro.will i still get glare in my 01 housing with projectors? prob not right? dont want to get into something if its not worth it. might as well get something out of this thread.

Ebay projectors suck. Period. In order for them to be someone usable, you would prolly have to swap the actual 2002-03 projector lens' into the housings. I think a few people here have done it.
ebay projectors are crap but the e55 projectors swap right into them from what i have read. The 02-03 don't have projectors they are reflector type housings. If you swap in a good projector setup such as the e55 or e46 you wont have any glare problems |
let us know about your experience with ddmtuning their prices are crazy cheap especially with a lifetime warranty. I would be worried about customer service though

I'm getting some 15k's in mine. I want my headlights to mimic the light of an ocean reef at 30'.

I've dealt with this guy twice.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...5097&viewitem= Very communicative, responds quickly, lifetime warrenty, and fantastic prices. I've had a set of 4300k H3's in my driving lights for several months now (had an extra 55watt ballasts). Had to slightly modify the plug on the back of the driving lights which seals the bulb in, but the driving lights were not originally HID anyway. Fit right in, no problems and they seem to be good quality. Came with everything I needed for the conversion. I've also just purchsed a set of D2R's for the headlights in the same 4300k color to match the driving lights. He even gave me a little discount ($1...but still, on these prices!) so I got the D2R's for $14.99 shipped. Yes, both bulbs. Total, approximately $31 for two sets of HID's. We'll see how long they last. |

I have a 2000 and the glare is from the light reflecting off the bottom of the housing, so to fix the glare I used high temp epoxy and a piece of sheet metal on the bottom of the light. it gives it a pretty decent cut off and stops the glare. the h4 bulbs come with a piece on the bottom but it was not enough so I changed it. I will post pics up tomorrow of the bulb and the light cutoff. I have had mine in for 3yrs and never been flashed

-1 for 8000k :chebosto:
-2 for HIDs in stock halogen housings If I could reach through this screen and into your driveway and smash your headlights with a baseball bat, I would..... I'm sure they'll get smashed soon enough, though, when some glare-blinded oncoming driver hits you head-on..... |

there is bixenon kits for our housings ddmtuning.com is a great place with real cheap kits with lifetime warranty's everybody and their brother has a car on the road with hids in stock housings yes there is glare but with the amounts of cars doing this now a days ur not going to be singled out and flashed constantly. i cant leave my house at night without seeing 10-15 different cars with hids in stock housings. ya its still not the correct thing to do but ur not guna be the only one, im all for projectors and retros but if u cant afford them and want more output than halogen glare city or not hids are going to be much brighter
|
After reading this looks like no hid's for me. Seems to complicated and I don't wanna piss anyone off with crazy glare or bright lights.

If you want more light output without a retro or 02-03 lights, HID fog lights can give you similar light output without being nearly as dazzling. You'll have a much lower likelihood of being pulled over with yellow or white HID fogs than you will with glaring blue HIDs in housings that weren't made to accommodate them. I am not big on it being unlawful, I don't have yellow reflectors in the front of my car, and my turn signals are more white than amber... but things like this that affect the safety of other drivers on the road gets a big :thumbsdow from me. |

I personally travel on some roads with no divider with 2 lanes opposing each other. Everyone has these damn hid kits, most 8-10k in stock housings and dont even have the courtesy to aim them down. As long as they see "better", its all good. Especially those huge suv's which are high up to begin with. I can't see anything on these roads when these cars go by. I have to start wearing sunglasses at night.... |

B I am lowered. Good point...didn't think about that. Then maybe OP needs to lower his car first (if its not already lowered). |
