Do you simply just cut the fog wire, splice/connect that onto the taillight and call it a day?

OP, pay close attention to the Shiftice.com instructions in how they differentiate between the 5.0 gen and the 5.5 gen. The wire color coding is different.

Except for that minor confusion, yeah, it's pretty simple. And the results are very cool.

Im going to be doing this very soon too....

Question: What are you 5.5 guys running as a clearance light above your turn signal? I love that look and wanted to do mine. What bulbs are you using? How is it wired up?

OP Sorry to thread jack, Rochesters signature provoked a question

"Clearance light"? Never heard that term before. I've always called it a Daytime Running Light. Curious, huh?

I'm using an array of 25 little amber SMD emitters on a wedge bulb.

Ebay from China.

ok thanks. yeah i've been searching and some call it DRL and some call it clearance, probably where most of my confusion comes from. Are you just tapping the power from your sidemarker lights?

Sorry, to get power to the DRL where are you getting the power from/where are you wiring this bulb to that is allowing the light to turn on.

It's on because you turn it on with the headlight switch on your steering wheel stalk. It gets power because the light is powered. The bulb is a standard wedge bulb connection, regardless of LED or incandescent design. There's nothing special going on. Maybe yours aren't lit because the bulbs are blown? IDK

I'm still not understanding why you're confused , but you're bound to figure it out with an "Ah-HA!" moment pretty soon.

Ok.... so lets get this straight. Is there supposed to be a light there from the factory? I have had no light being omitted from that location as long as i've owned the car (2 1/2 years). Like you said maybe i have a blown bulb, or fuse? I think this is where my confusion is, i thought this was some cool re-wire/mod.

Never heard it called "clearance". I Canada, I'm sure they are used as Daytime Running Lights. In the US, they are Parking Lights and only turn on with the setting on the stalk.

The mod allows the fog lights to come on with the parking lights as shown in the pic in Rochester's signature. ^^^^

Ok time for clarification before this thing gets out of hand. I understand the fog light rewire.

Confusion- Above the turn signal housing. I get no light from that location AT ALL. I thought it was another type of rewire people do. Rochester brought it to my attention that there is supposed to be a bulb there? If so.... my bulbs or fuse must be blown.

I am away from my car right now so i cant go look at it for reference. I am sorry for any confusion this may have caused. If someone would please just clarify that there is a factory light that belongs in that position that would be great.

OP Sorry once again for this thread jack

Oh, right. "Parking Lights" That, too.

You, sir, have blown bulbs in your Daytime Running Lights; a.k.a. Parking Lights; a.k.a. Clearance Lights. Doubtful it's a fuse, because those wee little lights are likely on a shared circuit.

2.5 years, huh? That's kind of funny. It's OK, man. Laugh about it , buy some replacement bulbs, and enjoy.

I would replace the bulbs. They are both probably blown. And yes, there are supposed to be bulbs in there.

On the stalk, the setting to turn on the parking/clearance bulbs exclusively is the one between "auto" and forcing the headlights on.

There's no hijack. The OP's question was asked, answered and confirmed in posts 1-2-3. Done. This thread is wide open now.

6THGEAR, go pull your blown bulbs and tell us what you find.

This was fun. Last time I "discovered" something on my car was when someone pointed out the little mood light on the console over the shifter.

OP, after foglight rewired... remember you will lose your fog lights when you turn on your highbeam.

I do not know of this mood light. Where is it?

My only discovery is that all the windows roll down when you press and hold the unlock button on the keyfob.

Search the 5th gen forum on "shifter light", then go look at your car. It's a really, really subtle light.

The thing I've never been able to figure out is how to make the windows go down in one step with the key fob, instead of 2 steps. It actually does that once in a while, but I can't figure out why.

Hopefully i'll run into you at Maxus Rochester, if you see me make sure you make a joke about this situation.

Mood light is right under the climate control, and above that coin holder/ashtray thing. Small little "slit" has light behind it. Its a nice touch.

Maybe. I'm only planning on attending Saturday. And if the weather forecast is decidedly bad, I'm going to forgo the 6 hour drive. I'll (probably) be the guy with the "Rochester" ball cap, because... well, I live in Rochester.

Back on topic, such as it is...

More accurately, you will lose your fog lights when the steering wheel stalk is in the high-beam position. Whether or not the headlights are actually lit isn't relevant.

I think I saw that slit when I pulled the radio out. I cannot remember if I saw a bulb in there. Will have to check.

One of the bulbs is out on the HVAC controls so I need to get in touch with my Nissan parts friend to see about getting new bulbs.

I personally don't understand the purpose of the "mood" light, but it looks nice none-the-less. A few weeks ago I added a colored ring around the 12v acc input. Nothing award-winning, but still a subtile touch that only other Maxima/Nissan people would recognize or understand.

Ok, this mod I did on my 03 max and the fogs work with parking lights yadda yadda yadda... NOW my question is... suggestions on wiring the relays so that the fogs stay lit when the high beams are engaged? I know on my F150 i just pulled the fuse and grounded one of the pins... is it this simple for the max?

it is illegal to have your fog lights on with high beams

HID fogs are also illegal...but you clearly dont feel the need to follow safety laws

and flashing someone to go is and childish

Doesn't the relay safeguard from blowing your fog HID's?
