Thinking of getting tinted windows

Thinking of getting tinted windows for my 2000 maxima se. What tint do you guys recommend? I live in Massachusetts so the legal limit is 35% and does this mean all windows have to be 35%? How much will it cost me for all windows including sunroof?

Dang, dude. Search around the forum. A few of your questions have already been answered in the past.

As far as tint, do whatever. Just be prepared. Some cops will actually stand there and make you pull it off on the side of the highway if it's too dark.

Price-wise, it all depends on the installer. Expect to pay an upwards of $150 for a good job.

And why bother with the sunroof? They're already pretty dark, are they not...?

You'll have to wait until someone around your area chimes in... really depends on where you're from.

A good tint job in the NorthEast runs about $200-250. And you need to find out from someone in your state if tint is part of your car inspection. I know in NJ that they will not pass inspection if tint is on the front side windows. Here in PA, tint isn't part of the inspection but monitored by the police who will stop you.

tinting your sunroof is not advisable as it will cause it to crack and/or shatter. at least thats what i was told

There is no "legal" tint in NY. No matter what you do you will be taking that chance. Most people will do like 20% rears and 35% fronts but again its ALL personal preference. No one else can tell you what YOU will like and want. Do what you want and enjoy it.

This shows that MA's laws are for 35% on all windows. I would recommend getting tint with a lifetime guarantee that doesn't fade, bubble, etc. That way if a cop ever does stop you with the light meter thingy and says you're too dark, you can take it back to the shop, show your ticket and have it re-done for free.

I paid $160 for all windows and sunroof 20%, lifetime warranty. He used to tint all the cars at the dealer I worked at, so it was nice that he even came to me to do it while I was working

As far as I'm concern ANY % of window tint is ILEGAL, as long as you don't tint the driver and passenger windows... what i recommend is to get your tints in whatever % u want, and if by any chance u end up getting a ticket go to court and show pictures from what the car used to look like before the tints and they will drop the charges... I had to go trough this last summer and i have 15% on mines.. good luck bro

Hi, windshield, rear and side windows may vary in percentage depending on the current tint law in your state. You may check it here at http://www.TintBuyer.com. They also gives information about tints like its types, quotations and help locate the best window tinters near your area. I hope this helps

It absolutely does. My brother had his trucked stopped by Raleigh pd about 4 years ago. They said his tint was too dark with the meter (and in NC, you have to get your car inspected each year, which includes a light meter test if you have tinted windows) so he took it back to the shop where his tint was done. They said if it had faded, they would replace it for free, but when they metered it, the tint was fine. So he went to a highway patrol station and had it metered as well, which came up fine. Took both of those documents to court and won.

Would they redo it if it was too dark?

Yes they would. It the tint is rated at 20% it must remain at 20% for the life of the tint. If it gets darker or lighter (or anything else happens to it 'naturally') then it will be replaced as well. You used to see lots of those horrible tint jobs here in south florida where, after a year or 2, bubbling or light and dark patches would be present. Buy the lifetime guarantee and that shouldn't happen..and if it does, it'll be replaced.

OK, but tint shops will not take off and replace your tint just because you received a ticket for dark tint which is what everyone thinks you are trying to originally state.

$150 here but it was a special, otherwise $170 in Marietta, GA. Legal is 35 front, 20 all around. That's what I have.

They actually tell you what's legal. If you want it darker, liability is yours.

Tinted mine myself for $70, 20% all around. I've been tinting cars on the side for a little while now, and its nice knowing you did it yourself

Go to Tint King in Billerica, one of the best places in MA, they'll set you up with 40% all around which should bring you pretty close to 35% and keep it legal I had my G done a few months ago there and they did an awesome job.

Uh-huh.

You open your sunroof cover when you see a police car?

Because....?

The light coming through the sunroof will make the tint appear lighter, lessening your chance of being pulled over.
