So.. I know the g35 i/m has been done.. BUT

We all know it's been done. However what if someone got the kinetix g35 i/m? Is it capable of being welded? Or ported g35 lower i/m? I know the upper is just hollow, What about the lower? I know gains are supposed to be made just curious if anyone has any more info before I go into doing this + a tune.

Thanks.

Actually there have not been any proven gains to this date as far as I know. I've yet to see a dyno of a FWD manifold in any form (stock, vias delete, SSIM) vs a Z/G manifold with/without spacer. Just some random "butt dyno" readings which are far from trustworthy. 99% of the time, you can lose a bunch of lowend or just change the sound of your exhaust to something more pleasant (or loud if it's quiet) and it'll feel like you've gained all kinds of power because your butt dyno has too many inputs and no point of reference.

Believe it or not there are a few threads floating around the my350z forums about swapping to the FWD IM because it has been shown to like high revs so much when SSIM'd as seen in Kevin's dyno vs the ITBs.

Also, the Z/G Kinetix is generally frowned upon over there. Lots of people put it on and saw losses or found that they were getting uneven amounts of air in some cylinders. It's stainless steel, so of course you can weld it.

This is why i'm posting. Looking to do something to get good gains, however really want something dyno proven. So far it's just butt dyno info..

Yeah it sounds pretty good for a car that has 3.0 timing equipment. Is there a kit out for the 5.5 that I'm not aware of other than the weird ebay one that nobody has tried?

I'd guess someone would have posted (Gemner or others) if they'd shown gains at the track or gone to the dyno, but haven't seen anything yet.

That's what I was waiting for, doesn't mmrod or someone like that have a s/c 5th gen? or 3.5? I think he;s putting down some 380 or something on the stock block=/ Anywho.

On to the best i/m upgrades. Would simply buying another one and porting upper+ lower be worth the hastle? I'd go ahead and get the spacers and port those as well before tuning, just curious before I dump this wod into my car lol.

I believe with a F-Spec relfash which utilizes the 350Z CVTC timing map you could see gains swapping over to a 350Z/G35/RWD intake manifold + spacer. Only problem is with hood clearance. Back when I had my F-Spec, my goal was to swap over to the 350Z I/M but found out that the clearance issues would literally have to have me running without the hood. But the only modifications that needed to be done were to have the neck on the RWD manifold be cut and a straight pipe welded in place and the tabs on the valve cover that keep the harness be cut off. They get in the way of the manifold. Other then that, it's a straight bolt-on affair. I'm still VERY curious as to how the car would do with the 350Z intake manifold since I have all 100% of the parts in the attic. But without the F-Spec reflash I doubt there would be much gains to be had over SSIM+Port/Gasket-Match+Spacers.

All this speculation without dyno results just makes me hasty in persuing it. In theory the g35 upper i/m is completely hollow which would allow easier air flow. However, theory alone doesn't put down numbers.. From the looks of no dyno results I may just port my stock upper and lower manifold and get aarons spacers also ported and put on. See how decent those gains hopefully are. Thanks anyways guys.

lol. its funny reading all this, cause I WOULD have proven definitively (one way or the other), but since I put the manifold on ive had a bad clutch that now is replaced, and a bad coil that just so happened to cook my ECU, its just been a train of bad luck. HOWEVER, with any luck I should be able to hit the track next wednesday and set it straight once and for all. All I can say for the Z manifold is that I ran 2/10 slower at the track with it on and running 10:1 AFR and slipping clutch than I did with my SSIM that was meticulously tuned to 13.2:1. I know thats just bench racing, so I really hope that soon I can find out what is what and I will DEFINITELY update my install thread with results. Ill even make a pass or two with the EMB with just an AFR tune so that its actually pretty much apples to apples.

Just to add, you dont want the G (im assuming you mean revup) collector. Its terrible. The serious guys that have revup engines get the MREV2 collector, which is a non-revup collector that has been machined/worked to flow better mostly just to the front two cylinders that are otherwise a little starved for air. The problem with the revup collector is that there is simply no torque and it only makes more HP than the non-revup for a couple hundred RPM. In short, if you go for a z mani get the non-revup and modify it yourself. You should be able to tell from pictures more or less what has been changed. Thats what I did

I was about to say the samething... I never really saw any gains, or none that I've read seen or heard of

Wouldn't this just make it a different looking SSIM???? But cost more

I havent been able to tune yet. Ive just had problem after problem with my car since installing it. However, im pretty sure it will be faster than it was with the SSIM, just based on how it pulls right now at 10:1 AFR

emanage blue? I was under the impression that the emanage ultimate had a tendency to blow coils (or something like that) on the 5.5.

Awaiting some results. Hopefully before I pull the triger on getting all of this done. IF none posted by wednesday, I'll prob just port the stock upper and lower as well as the spacers..
Than get a tune.

Just an FYI, when I go to dyno soon here, I will be doing a back to back dyno comparison with the SSIM, Rev-up and Non Rev-up lower manifolds and with and without the 5/16th spacer. I'll merge the graph and see what gains are to be had. The only quirk with this is that it's not really a stock motor......not like that's a bad thing.

Excellent... been waiting for this for a long time. Thank baby jesus you're comparing with a SSIM instead of a fully stock IM.

Don't build me up like this then disappoint, though. I may have to find your route to work and intersect your path with the primer truck....

lol. have you glanced at my build thread yet? i've come this far not to go ahead and do this testing for myself as well.

and i have no use for a stock im except for a good paperweight.

lol this is bittersweet,.. because i've always wanted to see this.. but.. your results def will not be linear with an engine that doesnt have a few grand into it lol

anyways,.. just to spice things up,... pics of your ssim job and the 2 different lower mani's

Here are pics of my SSIM that KRR350z ported for me and port matched the exchanges along with port matching Aaron's NWP spacers. The black was krylon'd by me 500 degree paint of course.

SR20DEN (Matt) has the 350z/G manifolds upper and lower, and sloppymax (Haydn) has the spacers for me. Between the 3 of us, we have everything we need to move forward. Don't have these pics though, will take them during dyno tuning.

mmmmmmm........... Sexy........... But i'm sure your dyno results will be FAR from anything we'll see, with or w.o the manifolds as well as with or with-out the spacers.

isn't that vslay's(sp) dyno?

I thought of mentioning that in here (Deckdouts plans) But I didn't, lazy.

Anyhow ... for results, as this will dictate my induction set-up we well.

So, I will be going to the track wednesday and Ill be AFR tuned finally, but I wont have the z33 vtc map as I havent sent the new ECU in to TS yet to have them transfer my maps over. I think it should be a reasonable comparison BUT not great. I think the trade off for not having the Z vtc map will be my "new" 15" J30 wheels and crappy 215 street radials. The trade off im talking about is that the combo is 20lbs/wheel lighter than my old race wheels, which would be a huge advantage, but they currently just have some worn out street tires that are only 215s. Ill let everyone know. When I get my ECU redone ill go back with my old wheels/tires for a more legit comparison

Im just trying to be honest. I dont want to say I did a perfect comparison when its not. If the manifold isnt worth anything I will be the first one to say that the SSIM is better. I would just wait it out and do a perfect comparison (ECU to TS, AFR only with the emanage, same 50lb wheel/tire) but its been so long since I got to race my car I just want to go and have some fun instead of waiting until I have all the equipment lined up.

Regardless, Im very certain that Ill be faster with this setup, feels really good even without the TS tune
