Is there a recommnded mileage to replace the gasket between the TB and the IACV?

If not, has anyone compiled the average fail mileage so that we can recommend a gasket replacement interval to other members?

Or should we just put replacing the IACV to TB gasket (like $4-$6) as soon as you buy the car in one of the "new owner" stickies?

I know mine failed at 137000.

 

I am currently replacing mine at 148K only because I am cleaning the IACV. I have some idle issues and was throwing a 0505 code.
Are you having a high idle and stall?

 

Why not just remove the stepper motor and have a good visual inspection for crap and coolant in the air passage/cavity. If there is no signs of coolant just reinstall the stepper motor. It seems to me that removing the IACV assembly just to replace the gasket could actually result in a coolant leak. The gasket is one that has an "O" ring profile and if you are not careful it can be nipped or pinched. Plus, if you remove the stepper motor (leave the harness connector attached) it's a good time to check that it at least is "operating" when you turn the ignition switch to ON, and then OFF.

 

I just realized that too. Getting the IACV off from the TB was a pain and the gasket it super thin and is prone to tearing.

 

If you take the stepper motor off, is the spindle in the middle supposed to move freely or just when powered? If so, mine might be locked.

 

Any info on this?? I am looking to clean my 5.0gen 2000 throttle body and check the iacv for gumminess. Don't want to screw up anything, so can I check the valve w/out completely removing it? It sounds like I can do this by removing the stepper motor...what piece is that?...is it obvious?
