As long as you don't change the muffler, the car will stay quiet.

You can have headers, test pipe, and B-pipe and it'll be quiet as long as you have stock muffler.

Your car will be louder if you get headers and keep it stock from the cat back. If you get a Y pipe too, it'll be even louder. As long as you keep the stock muffler, it shouldn't be too loud though. Here's a video I found of a 5.5 gen with just headers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7J4bzb33oI&sns=em

When you change the headers you change the y-pipe.

OP: Cat doesn't matter as much as the muffler, if you leave the stock muffler you'll be fine.

It's negligible unless at WOT and even then it's a tame ***** cat compared to anything aftermarket.

I had straight through to stock muffler and it was still extremely quiet. It was annoying as hell to be so quiet.

Won't he still be kinda fighting all odds of getting headers and y if you just run the stock cat as well as cat back and muffler?...

Headers is a whole setup of headers and y-pipe.

This is correct, it will change the note, but will keep the car quiet enough that you can sneak the Miley Cyrus back home at night with out waking the parents.

Too a point at WOT you will notice that the car has headers. But at idle the car will just sound stock

Huh?

Lets clear somethings up, a stock cat flows pretty damn good, use it up until it fails and get a test pipe, if you can get away with it in your state, otherwise just get another cat. Hi-flow or not its the least restrictive part of our exhaust.

Same goes for a stock muffler, I've seen people dyno up to 250whp on a stock muffler, so they aren't that restrictive.

You see negligible gains with replacing things after the y-pipe (5hp tops if that)...unless of course you go to a 3" exhaust

Let's hope the local 5-0 don't catch sight of that vid. (And by that, I don't mean your neighborhood Mustang.)

Maybe it's just me. And yeah, matter of time before I run 3". Just didn't see the point on headers and y if you want stock. However if you still want quiet man you can run a cattman? Their system is pretty good and I hear the drone on them is little. that's the 2.5". Or of course run the stock muffler. It'll be a TAD bit louder but nothing near full exhaust.

Nmexmax dyno'd at 242whp on a stock catback. Power gain is actually the same for Header/y with stock catback and an aftermarket 2.5" catback.

I guess the OP wants headers just to say he has headers what's the point of headers with no catback??? Why not go buy a Y-pipe??? OP if your gonna get headers just go ahead and get a cattman catback exhaust (2.5"), makes for a beautiful mellow tone that is not loud... or headers and a cattman B-pipe... just no point of just gettn headers bro man (well there is, but for the money spent you're shorting yourself)

Was it with a stock catback or a stock muffler.... IIRC it was a stock muffler, but I could be wrong...

Excuse me? Im full bolt-on, if you know what that means. So calm down.

Second, Seriously?

Search, there are about a billion header threads... You gonna make a new thread after this asking which kind are the best? Equal length vs unequal? These are all going to be your threads? Then one on some random trash talking again? Okay. Stop it

I personally wouldn't run the stock just because the stated "2.25" we have when I measured ran a bit higher then 1.5".. I just don't see why you'd short cut yourself and get headers and y and keeep stock.. You will gain power, yes. Just don't think it's a smart move.

I'll probably only start with a y for now, headers are pretty expensive, dont see y its not a smart move

They come together, ppl make it seem like its two seperate things u gotta buy.. but anyways the reason I said that is because headers and catback is just as good as intake and a catback, and at least those are things u can easily see so u killed two birds with one stone, u got the same kinda performance and the rear of the car is a tad more attractive, and it costs less.... make ur own intake like everybody else and buy a cattman 2.5 exhaust... don't even go throught the hassle of headers... for the performance gains with a stock catback its not even worth it

So your saying headers with stock catback, he won't gain any HP?

I know quiet a feel people who will beg to differ

but for the OP honestly I think he's better just getting a y-pipe.
