How to change knock sensor on a 5th gen?

does anyone know how to change the knock sensor on a 5th gen, 2001 to be exact? Is there like a write up? I can only find directions for a 4th gen. Is it the same way? is the sensor in a different spot on a 5th gen? I cant seem to find this damn sensor....

Trace the harness going below the IM.

Don't know if the 3.0 is the same but on my 3.5 it's just behind the square casting in the "valley" of the block.

thats what I was thinking.... I just want to hear from someone who has actually done it on a 3.0 5th gen. Just to see if there are certain things I have to look out for thats different from the 4th gen....

I just did it a month ago and posted a couple of thought about it. You'll have to take the Upper and lower intake manifold off to get to it. Once those parts are off it will be in plain sight. On a second thouhgt you might aswell replace the harness. They tend to erode.

I was trying to avoid all that and maybe use the 4th gen route with an extension and and swivel hinge.... You think it can be done this way?

Impossible on a dek. We have an extra water passage right in the way of the knock sensor. You absolutely have to take the upper and lower intake manifold off to even see the sensor. Use it as a good time to replace the harness and all gaskets too.

I KNEW IT! thats what I thought when I was looking at the engine the other day trying to find that sucker....well, I guess ill do it that way. Oh and when you guys say "harness" which one do you mean? Like what should I ask for when I go to the dealer? Knock sensor harness?

It's kinda hard to explain without a visual, but its a small harness about a foot (probably less) in length that plugs into the main engine harness on one side and the knock sensor on the other side of course. PM DAVEB, he will know for sure and you can order it directly from him or he can give you a part number so you can get it local if you prefer.

If you follow the upper radiator hose (driver side) back to the temperature switch screwed into that metal water pipe that the hose attatches too. Then about 2" back from that switch you will see a metal bracket with a small wire loom attached to it. Follow that wire loom up about an inch or two to another metal bracket. Attached to this bracket is where you would clip the knock sensor harness to the main engine harness. You can follow this to the knock sensor.

If I didnt loose the charger for my camera I could show you.

Just use any writeup telling you how to take off or install the intake manifold. It's pretty straight forward though. Just alot of vacum lines and those pesky, hard to reach, cant see brackets behind the manifold.
