Question about the Trunk.

Hi all,

I bought a used 02 SE 6 spd. I was wondering if anyone knew what is supposed to be on the driver side of the trunk? There seems to be a bit of a cutout and it looks like something was supposed to be there. I saw a pic of it while looking through craigslist at this link:

I'm pretty sure that's a scam, but anyway, anyone know what that thing is in the trunk on the last picture?

Thanks alot

Since that is a 2001, it could still be a BOSE system. My BOSE system has a factory changer.

Yeah, it's a scam.

I have been looking at maxima prices, and this guy, "John Durden" has this car posted with the exact same pictures in every major city in the country on craigslist.

Either he travels a lot, or it's a scam.

He's not talking about the CD changer. He's asking about the recessed area on the sidewall of the driver-side trunk.

I've seen pictures of a black-bag first aid kit velcro'd into that depression. Seems like a good idea, but I don't know if that's the design intention or not.

It's the section outlined in red on this image. I don't know what that is. Always kind of wondered, too.

No sorry, I think they're right. My car has the bose system so I guess I wouldn't have that. I was asking about the CD changer if that's what it is.

Cool, thanks.

Really? Oops.

So.... what is that depression in the trunk anyway?

... Now you are left wondering, huh? (...although I would like to know too).

My 02 has a first aid kit there in a leather bag with the Infiniti logo on it. It straps to the side about 4 inches up off the trunk floor.

EDIT: I see Rochester already posted this. But yes, that's my 2 cents as to what it is.

Interesting. I've always wondered what that was for. My '02 I35 has that indent with a strap/ buckle setup, but there's nothing there. I thought maybe a tool kit that the manual speaks of, but I think the "tool kit" is only the tire iron and jack handle. It doesn't fit in there.

Strap and buckle, that explains the slits.

Thanks for the pics and confirmation, guys. Now I can sleep soundly with full knowledge on this dent in my trunk liner.

It's the little things.

Some of us are strange (in a good way) like you.

You see something and you say, now why is that thing that way?

I knew this all sounded familiar... there was a WTB thread about floor mats that OT'd into the trunk. RiceRocket336 has a NISSAN-branded first aid kit in that depression:
