Transmission slips out of gear
Transmission slips out of gear
01 SE AT. I had my transmisison replaced with a rebuilt core at 108K. A month ago, at 118K, the transmision slipped out of gear and car revved freely unless I put gear shift in 1. Parked and let it sit for 2 hours, turned it back on, and no problems.
One week later, SES light. Took it to my trans guy: Code P0720 output shaft speed sensor circuit. He says "let's clear it and see if it comes back." Now I'm at 119K, and trans just slipped again, and SES light is back on. I will be taking the car back to the trans guy this week. Any suggestions?

replacing the sensor may actually be the fix, because it controls the rpms of the gears a malfuctioning one may cause the slips and it to over heat making you wait 2 hours or it maybe a safty the engine has i dont know to much about sensors but id go that route first
They are different as per FSM. Revolution sensor: Detects output shaft rpm and sends a signal to TCM. Vehicle speed sensor: Used as an auxiliary vehicle speed sensor. Sends a signal when revolution sensor (installed on transmission) malfunctions.

Yea, but I didn't do a relearn/calibration since I evidently didn't research enough. I had some extremely jerky acceleration when I went for a test drive. I had to call it a night to pack for a trip so when I get home tomorrow afternoon I will do the relearn and see what that yields. I'll update my thread afterwards. Still concerned it could be something else, my issue seems to fall under many different threads with many different (and collectively expensive) solutions.
The only code mine threw was the speed sensor, i replaced it and it does the same thing.im gonna try to borrow a TCM and if that doesnt work im gonna just go ahead and buy a tranny and replace it. i saw one for 300 with 85K so that would be my best bet being low on cash and all.
I had the same code. I called Daveb and searched the org. and it turns out it is the Output Revolution Sensor located just behind the driver side front wheel. Daveb shipped for $130. It took 30 min. to install. Phillips head screwdriver and 10mm socket is all u need for the install aside from taking the wheel.Good Luck!!!!
