get a screw driver and punch a hole into it.. then while the screw driver is still in the filter, use it as a lever for making it loose.. and next time u get ur oil changed dont tighten up ur filter too hard bc it will get tighter with the heat from the engine..

PS. dont try to get the screw driver to go all the way thru the filter bc u might with the threads where it gets screwed in and fukc em all up..

nismopc 07-08-2010 07:02 AM

I always use a large set of pliers when this occurrs. OEM filters seem to never stick, but I've been using Wal-Mart brand lately and the rubber likes to stick to the housing.

soto2635 07-08-2010 07:03 AM

lil elbow grease, just gt a good grip on it with the wrench, i had the same issues, mine was all dented by the time i was done.

Teufelhunden 07-08-2010 07:04 AM

i dont know if that will work... because this thing is really stuck on there...

mandyfig 07-08-2010 07:05 AM

The least of your worries would be to destroy the filter. Yank that baby out. Get something to catch the oil.

Next time, hand tighten the filter and put oil on the rubber seal.

I love the oil filter location on the Max and well as my Acura's. I hate the CRV's.

i wish i could just yank it out... i was thinking about hacksawing the damn thing.... lol is that safe?

dj tes 07-08-2010 07:26 AM

go to autozone. they have a special set of pliers made specifically for oil filters. it will make it so much easier. i bought a pair and never changed oil without them ever since. they'll cost you about $8.00. goodluck friend

pepox369 07-08-2010 07:30 AM

dude it will work.. just need to believe in urself.. lmao.. heres a link!

mandyfig 07-08-2010 07:31 AM

There's a ton of tools to get the filter out. Best way, get a filter cap that fits, use a socket wrench. Add a breaker bar and I can guarantee that baby's out of there.

Go shopping for filter wrenches. Do not beat yourself silly.

mandyfig 07-08-2010 07:31 AM

REALLY STUCK ON THERE...really!

Nelsito65 07-08-2010 07:36 AM

Hit the gym!!!...... (Just kidding...)... Really, poke a long screwdriver through the thing, as long as you do it through the very top of the filter; it will really give you leverage, unless that thing is welded on there..

tedo007 07-08-2010 07:36 AM

Best thing to do is go to the dealership to get the oil change. They know what to do with it.

well the oil is already drained... dont want to fill it back up with new one, knowing that its gonna get drained again.. well im gonna go try again later... its so freakin damn hot outside.

Kevlo911 07-08-2010 07:44 AM

Did you even try the screw driver method? Or do you just keep saying "it's really stuck on there"?

I was gonna say something like that...

NmexMAX 07-08-2010 07:59 AM

Same concept with fuel filters, crush the old FF barbs w/pliers, it's not like you need them in tact anymore. :squint:

dude.. the screw driver is bent! im screwed!

Kevlo911 07-08-2010 08:16 AM

????

You bent a screw driver in a THIN METAL FILTER? Sorry, but that just does not seem possible unless you used a super thin screw driver.

If anything a regular screw driver will cut through the filter...

Teufelhunden 07-08-2010 08:17 AM

alright, well i gotta go to work soon.. gonna have to take the old beater.. its not even registered.. :(

yea i used the thin one and no, it was bent because i was trying to twist it off.. thats the only one i had at the moment.. gonna go get some extra thick ones later...

Wheel lug nut wrench, maybe?

HotshotVQ35 07-08-2010 08:26 AM

channel locks always work for me..

Maximus356spd 07-08-2010 08:54 AM

Maybe just take it to a shop for an oil change and let them screw it up lol or you could try an oil filter wrech cover thingy

nissandrvr98 07-08-2010 09:02 AM

channel locks if you're not gonna go the screwdriver route. crush it then get a good grip and spin it off.

e-subliminal-2 07-08-2010 09:27 AM

Filter, Ratchet, LONG breaker bar. And Muscle. It'll come off. If that doesn't work, use a longer breaker bar. It'll work.

cant, the oil is already drained... im at work now.. so i will have to wait till 7 and then im gonna work at it again. trying to crush it since the screw driver method isnt really working. i think the rubber part is like glued on there or something.. :(

With ramps???... You did not take the passenger tire and the inner plastic fender cover out, to have easy access to the oil filter? (Maybe that's my preference. I hope is not a "duh" moment)

i never take off the wheels to do oil change...

essential1 07-08-2010 12:43 PM

This thread shows the reason why I will ALWAYS do my own oil changes.

If you're having this much trouble with the filter, who ever last touched it put it on way to tight. The oil filter should only be tightened only as much as your HAND will tighten it. You will never have this problem if you follow this rule.

Whenever you finally get it off, check to make sure the seal thats supposed to be on the oil filter isnt stuck to the block. If it is, and you put the new filter on it, you run the risk of it not sealing properly. I've seen this happen before.

mandyfig 07-08-2010 12:46 PM

The filter seal was not oiled perhaps and as a result bonded to the steel. Bet ya that's what happened. You will have to rip that seal.

You can access the filter and drain plug without taking off the wheel. Just turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and you can get it from the front section of the wheel well. And if i'm not mistaken, if the maxima is on stock suspension, you dont even need to jack it up. But dont quote me on that because I havent worked on a stock max in forever.

Have you done it that way? (I think I still prefer to do it like I said before)

yes that was my mistake. i will never take it to a shop again... they dont care about our cars...

NmexMAX 07-08-2010 12:59 PM

Me neither but it's just to save time, because I've done it before and would recommend it only if time isn't an issue, other than that remove the wheel :faint:

Teufelhunden 07-08-2010 01:05 PM

ok, im gonna go over to sears on my way home and buy a freakin oil filter wrench...
