get a screw driver and punch a hole into it.. then while the screw driver is still in the filter, use it as a lever for making it loose.. and next time u get ur oil changed dont tighten up ur filter too hard bc it will get tighter with the heat from the engine..

PS. dont try to get the screw driver to go all the way thru the filter bc u might with the threads where it gets screwed in and fukc em all up..

I always use a large set of pliers when this occurrs. OEM filters seem to never stick, but I've been using Wal-Mart brand lately and the rubber likes to stick to the housing.

The least of your worries would be to destroy the filter. Yank that baby out. Get something to catch the oil.

Next time, hand tighten the filter and put oil on the rubber seal.

I love the oil filter location on the Max and well as my Acura's. I hate the CRV's.

go to autozone. they have a special set of pliers made specifically for oil filters. it will make it so much easier. i bought a pair and never changed oil without them ever since. they'll cost you about $8.00. goodluck friend

There's a ton of tools to get the filter out. Best way, get a filter cap that fits, use a socket wrench. Add a breaker bar and I can guarantee that baby's out of there.

Go shopping for filter wrenches. Do not beat yourself silly.

Hit the gym!!!...... (Just kidding...)... Really, poke a long screwdriver through the thing, as long as you do it through the very top of the filter; it will really give you leverage, unless that thing is welded on there..

Best thing to do is go to the dealership to get the oil change. They know what to do with it.

Did you even try the screw driver method? Or do you just keep saying "it's really stuck on there"?

Same concept with fuel filters, crush the old FF barbs w/pliers, it's not like you need them in tact anymore.

????

You bent a screw driver in a THIN METAL FILTER? Sorry, but that just does not seem possible unless you used a super thin screw driver.

If anything a regular screw driver will cut through the filter...

channel locks if you're not gonna go the screwdriver route. crush it then get a good grip and spin it off.

Filter, Ratchet, LONG breaker bar. And Muscle. It'll come off. If that doesn't work, use a longer breaker bar. It'll work.

With ramps???... You did not take the passenger tire and the inner plastic fender cover out, to have easy access to the oil filter? (Maybe that's my preference. I hope is not a "duh" moment)

This thread shows the reason why I will ALWAYS do my own oil changes.

If you're having this much trouble with the filter, who ever last touched it put it on way to tight. The oil filter should only be tightened only as much as your HAND will tighten it. You will never have this problem if you follow this rule.

Whenever you finally get it off, check to make sure the seal thats supposed to be on the oil filter isnt stuck to the block. If it is, and you put the new filter on it, you run the risk of it not sealing properly. I've seen this happen before.

The filter seal was not oiled perhaps and as a result bonded to the steel. Bet ya that's what happened. You will have to rip that seal.

You can access the filter and drain plug without taking off the wheel. Just turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and you can get it from the front section of the wheel well. And if i'm not mistaken, if the maxima is on stock suspension, you dont even need to jack it up. But dont quote me on that because I havent worked on a stock max in forever.

Have you done it that way? (I think I still prefer to do it like I said before)

Me neither but it's just to save time, because I've done it before and would recommend it only if time isn't an issue, other than that remove the wheel
