black suede headliner

ok so my most recent mod was to put a black suede headliner in my car. I will post pictures in order. black2000maxise helped me a lot with this.

at first i completely forgot to put suede on the sunroof shade lol.
also, the suede on the front pillars covers the tweeter grills. those were last to fix.

fixed the sunroof shade

on to the tough part...the center and rear pillars. I tried the suede on it but the material didnt stretch, so i used krylon fusion...well that reacted too much with the weather. when it was hot the paint would get sticky.and it would chip easily so i found dye and dyed them. so much better. not only did it dry and not chip easily, they dont have the weird shine the paint gave and the color matches PERFECTLY to the lower trim.

Finished product...FOR NOW...im going to the upholsterer on monday to get a price for the front visors. hopefully ill have them done for my next show.

here is a description of my final eventual plans for the final interior. its an edited facebook comment i made on the last picture. post ur ideas on this too.

i was thinking of getting the infiniti i35 rear seats if i can find them heated to match the g35 front seats better and add full options that came in the i35 (except auto lol). and eventually releather everything and put red stitching to match the shift boot and e-brake boot and i was wondering what to do with the door panel inserts. i was thinking red stitching across in the center but i like the suede idea. maybe both? i want to keep the seats perfforrated tho cuz the steering wheel is. that and a new carpet would finish the interior in the end but for the future.

Only my opinion, of course, which matters not.

lol...that was an option when i bought my car (didnt know how to drive 6sp at the time) till my friend got one and was charged $500 just to have a radio trim kit custom made! plus i actually like the dash on the maxima better...its more fun to do the mods anyway.

I'll take the assumption it's because the flash from the camera really "pimpifized" (Is that a word?) the suede. It probably isn't as bad looking in person.

Did you black out the rear deck yet?

Mine...

I covered in black carpet, painted all plastic parts w/Fuzion black, and added a 10" Kicker sub (non-bose set-up) and the custom cover is now also fully carpeted.

i figured it was the picture. the camera shows every time you touch the headliner lol. i originally thought putting the suede there but i decided against it due to possible fading. There has to be a uv protector for it but i also think it would be overkill on the suede. I have enough dye for the plastic pieces...how much carpet did it take? and was it a glue process like the headliner? can i get it at any audio installation place?

it actually was a little less than 100...but...the fabric was half off. I got lucky. It didnt take long for the headliner...a day but I let it dry overnight. for everything finished it took a week because I researched different paints and dyes for the pillars.

Very nice!

Just one question - where are the seats from? I see Infiniti logos on them. (Makes me wonder if anyone's ever put in the M seats with the built in Bose speakers on the top...)

I had to enlarge the factory 8" opening. Made a square mounting plate out of MDF that is slightly larger than the 10" and bolted that to the rear deck AFTER sealing all openings and covering with Home Depot furnace insulation (cheap cheap dynomat effect).

Yes, it's a infinite baffle (free-air) design. Just a normal 10" Kicker Comp. Nothing special. It provides decent bass and a full trunk.

Had a friend in High School who covered the interior of his 1978 Z28 in blue ****, with an actual, $$$ crystal chandelier for the dome light. That was almost 30 years ago, and he still has it today.

Infer from that oddity whatever you like, in whatever context.

Then just smile and wave.

BTW, I like the G seats. The Infiniti logo is wicked out of place, but the seats look good.

Was this car at Maxus? I seem to remember a similar ride with Infiniti seats. There was a really young guy driving it who said his friend gave him the car for the day. I remember thinking, that has to be a pretty solid friendship.

So I ended up not having the upholsterer do the visors and did them myself.

passenger visor

the clip on the drivers side ends up chipping...trying to find an alternative...thinking of a 4th gen one? wont match completely but same one on each side will keep it uniform... this visor doesnt clip in for the time being.

Not my cup of tea either, but I applaud the effort.

If I went that route, I'd have to do it in red suede, diamond-tuck the seats, hang a strong air-freshener from the miror and go for the French brothel ambiance...
