i changed the ignation coils, spark plugs, drained all fluids etc. well i took out the MAF and noticed it didnt have a resistor in it like in the pic below
mine doesnt have it, i have a 2000 se any thoughts? i dont have a SES light or anything like that

Sounds right to me....depending on where you are driving and your habits. I do 75% highway/interstate driving in my day to day, and I consistently get around 320 miles per tank. When stomping it and running a/c (been hot as he77 lately)...I get around 300-310 miles per tank. I get about 360-370 on trips (all interstate).
I've heard other 5/5.5 gen'rs getting about the same. Some a bit more, some less.

If you're auto that sounds about right if doing a decent amount of city driving. but hwy should be better.
But if you're manual that's waaay too low.
If that's your original maf throw it out. They don't really last much past 100k and a bad one will definitely kill your MPG.

I haven't heard anyone else mention that MAF sensors go bad after 100K miles. Is this explicitly referring to the '00-'01 kind, or the 5.5 gen's?
I'm getting around 19.8 MPG with a mix of 70% highway (cruising speed typically 75) and 30% city. With a 6-speed on my '02 using the AC and running on 245s. The spark plugs and air filter are all new, <5K miles. I stomp on the gas maybe five times a tank, so it's not as if I'm racing from light to light or anything. A tank will typically net me ~300 miles before the gas light comes on. When I've done my best to get good mileage from my car, I can eek out a 23 MPG tops, cruising at ~60 with still 70% highway.

I don't know how you could miss it. "It's your MAF" is just about the most common diagnosis on the 5th gen forum, bar none. It's become such a catch-all for engine problems, it's almost cliché.

I thought the same thing til a couple days ago when mine went. From all that I've heard about MAFs going bad on our cars, I was kind of expecting it at some point...
I think I need a new maf because I had to drive like a grandpa staying under 2500 rpm for the most part in my auto just to be able to get between 19-20 mpg all city miles though is that normal or do I need a new maf?

I still get about 320 to the tank i.e. just before the light comes on in city and about about 350 on hwy.... for the size of the car and 4spd auto... its just fine.
I hope to get the test pipe in there soon and put in a y-pipe... thats bound to bump up MPG.

i'm getting around 70 miles per 1/4 tank on 89 octane, 5 speed.
seems a bit low to me, i did replace 4 of the 6 coils so far and have done Seafoam, tune-up with NGK copper plugs gapped to spec, keeping my tires filled to 40 psi and shifting at 3k rpms...i don't get it?

I drive 58 miles to work, mostly highway. If the trip computer is correct I average 27.2 and just over 400 to a tank. I sppose I should get out the calculator and see what I'm really getting

I was wondering what people were getting these days...
In the summer I get 450 miles out of the tank, but I suspected it has to do with the 15" steelies I am driving around... Also the 5sp mtx helps!
