14.58 in a 2K2 Auto!!!

Guys I just got a new personal best tonight at the track - a 14.588@94.09!!! I was running mid 14.6's and 14.7's all night.

Here's the slip: (I don't have a scanner )
60'---2.258
330---6.163
1/8---9.388
MPH---76.50
1/4---14.588
MPH---94.09

BTW, I have only 2980 miles on the odometer and just a pop charger intake.

Peace,
Daniel

That's incredible. It's easier to launch an automatic too, so the 6 speed better watch out. The 6 speed has the advantage on the roll however.

I hear that! Time to start modding

Lokos like the Intake knoked off about a tenth or two, not bad! Great run man. Look's like even more evidence a auto max is quicker then a TL-S .

Ethan, should I trade up for a 2k2 Auto or trade with my brother for a BMW 328i steptronic? (I sold my 4th Gen GLE).

I don't like auto's, but if I had to choose I would go with the max of course . Auto 328's are to slow for my taste, 02 auto max's hall A$$.

Ever driven a 328i? Its solid, refined, and in the twisties, no way a maxima can touch it. But hm... 3.5 or 2.8... hm...

I looked into maybe buying a 2000 5spd 328 before I made up my mind on getting another max. I never test drove one though. 328's are definatly nice and all but I just wanted a brand new car and the extra power so I decided to go with another max.

Nice times. Did you power brake at the lights? What was your launching technique? Did you do anything to the tires, such as lowering the pressure in the fronts, to help with traction? If you get that 60ft time lower, then you could hit really low 14's.

great times

could it be possible that 2k2 automagics are not too far from 2k2 six speeds when it comes to the track?

Thanks guys. I think the best launching technique is to brake torque to 1100RPM and gate shift. If I don't brake torque I just peel out for all of 1st. If I don't gate shift, I usually run around 14.75-14.90, so it's still not bad.

Peace,
Daniel

That is an impressive time. It looks like the autos are *almost* as fast as 6spds now. And the 2k2 auot is as fast as a fully modded 4th gen.

So assuming after y-pipe, you will be around 14.3ish. Wow, that is roughly a full second faster then a intake/y-pipe 4th gen.

Props!

Sweet!!!!!!

This gives me hope! Are you doing anything to your tire pressure...?

Man if you are not, that thing will get into the low low 14's, which means if the 6-sp hsld is geared right (I don't know the gears), it should get 13's stock.

I'm a believer!!!!!

congrats!!

later, dude

It's the TORQUE! That's why F-body autos are fast as their manuals

The amazing thing is that I just drove to the track, turned in my tech. card and pulled around and ran. I never even cut off the car until after the first run which I ran a 14.66@93MPH! The tire pressure was left alone, and my spare was still in the trunk! Next week I am going to take out the spare and all the tools and see if I can break 14.3's or 14.4's. I had an offer by a 2000 GS400 owner with 20" rims to race for $100 on the street and I turned it down. I wasn't sure if I could hook-up well enough to pull a 14.6. I think on most roads with average traction, I probably pull around 14.7-14.8. When I get my HKS exhaust for Christmas, I should at least do 14.3's wouldn't you guys think? BTW, do you guys think I could have the fastest known automagic maxima?

Thanks Again Guys,
Daniel

Though ... u only have a pop-charger ... nice!

why do you only torque brake to 1100rpm, you should floor the gas pedal and the brake pedal and then let the brake pedal go...wouldn't it be a better launch?

Also...what do you mean peel out all of 1st if you don't torque brake....you just keep on spining all the way to 45mph?

Even with 190 HP, I can get massive wheel spin by braketorquing to 2000. With 65 more HP, the car would be horrible to launch that high.

If I brake torque any less than 1000RPMs or any more than 1500RPMs - I just spina through first and slightly in second. About 1100RPMs seems to be the best launch.

Congratulations on the impressive times. Can't wait to see what mods it would take for a 2K2 to run 13's.

I'm so happy the 2k2 automagic Maxima is a 14 second car. I don't want another 5 speed as a daily driver because my project car will be a 5 speed. Now I can get another Maxima and not give up any speed by going with the auto. I want a GLE anyways plus finding a auto Maxima is about 400 times easier. The cable shifters in the 6 speeds feel like crap which is a major mistake on Nissan's part. I don't know what they were thinking going with a VW cable actuated shifter. A true rod linkage is the only way to go.

Whoever said that the torque increase is why the auto is so much faster is completely correct. I think the gap between the auto and manual has closed up dramatically (most liley within .2-.3 of each other). When you've got a lot of torque, the manual vs auto comes down mostly to the driver in the 1/4 mile. The same can be said about the F-Body and 99+ Mustang. The autos give up very little in terms of straightline performance simply because of the torque and torque mulitplication of the torque converter.
