"00 Ignition/tumbler switch replacement questions

Seems like the tumbler or key is wearing out. I only have one original key and a copy of it so if the key is worn I think I gotta get a whole new set. It uses the transponder chip, so what are my options? Nobody has an aftermarket replacement, can I replace it with a cheaper no chipped set or am I stuck with getting the OE stuff from the dealer?

you can try Ebay for chipped Nissan blanks, but then after getting them cut you'd have to get them programmed

So do you think it's the key wearing out and not the actual tumbler/switch? I have to jiggle it a lot before it recognizes the key. If it's as easy as getting the factory code and having it cut, that would be awesome.

pretty sure it's the key...the tumbler " keys " only move up into the cylinder when the key is inserted....i had to change a tumbler already and there is not many moving parts involved

Talk with a local locksmith that does cars before you take the car to a dealer. Start by asking what they charge to make a key and program it to the car. They will be less expensive then the dealer, but some of them can be pretty high. Once you find one that has reasonable prices, talk to him about your problem.
