Be more specific? What kind of sound?

Maybe try recording the sound...

You could have tire noise (also called road noise). It can happen when you get a tire with a tread design that isn't compatible with the pavement surface. Can also happen when a tire starts to wear out.

Dennis is right

Look at the outside edges of your tires. If they are not all a uniform shape your tires are cupped.

Cupped tires will give you a heck of a hum at speed.

It's why big 4X4's have so much tire noise. The big outer ***** on their cause a horrific hum.

Or you could have a rear wheel bearing issue. They sometimes get worse at speed.

I agree! Could be too many things. Be very specific or record a clip.

Plugging the drain hole is only going to maybe reduce how loud the noise is, not stop it. If you know somebody with a Maxima that you can swap tires with and do a test drive, do it and either prove or eliminate tire noise as your problem. The test tires don't have to be the same size as yours, just different tires.

I had a very loud noise at 75 show up. Turned out to be the plastic wind guard for the sunroof! Sounded like the tread coming off the tire and hitting the fender!

try lowering the tyre pressure to about 26 psi and see if the problem stops if it does it's time for a tyre change

I vote wheel bearing.

Reason sound only produces at higher speed. Lower speed would still give you the tire and/ road noise. Another posters comparision of 4x4 tires with passenger tires is far from an equal comparision.

I would start with the cheaper things first. Tire wear, balance of wheel, correct psi, swapping wheel and tire (they don't have to be maxima wheels and tires just get same size like 235/45/17r with a similiar 235/45/17, then if no find... look at bearing. They will go out over time and if you are lowered sooner than later. They are about 60.00 at the dealer and are simple swap out in the driveway.

Not that it matters, but I wasn't comparing the sound to a 4X4.

I said if the tires got cupped you can get the sound because of uneven rubber surfaces.

Cupped tires will give you a heck of a hum at speed.

It's why big 4X4's have so much tire noise. The big outer ***** on their tires cause a horrific hum.

I also suggested that it may be a bearing.
