Tie rod help?
Tie rod help?
Hey guys I took my car to get a wheel alignment/camber adjustment done on my Max (lowered on D2 coilovers) and i was told it needs a new passenger side tie rod. My question is, do I need a outer tie rod or a inner tie rod? or do I need tp replace both? Ima replace it my self i read up all the DIY's and information on it already doesnt seem difficult. Thanks alot i appreciate it
Buy them both and the inner boot. You can always return what you don't need. Hopefully, the inner is in perfect condition. It takes a couple extra minutes and a special tool. The tech should have specified which needed replacing, but you'll know when you pop the outer out of the knuckle. Good luck!
It's pretty easy. First raise the car and place it on jackstands. Next feel for which side is having issues by moving the tire back and forth. Feel for a mechanical "Click". Once you feel it stick your head behind the wheel and watch the tierod end move. It shouldn't have any play at all. If it seems solid, have someone hold the steering wheel and turn the tire again and see which one moves.
