Bored and went on stillen's website, was very surprised...

that they had so many mods going on for the max. I know most of the mods they got listed but when they put it in a spread sheet like that, it looks like our cars can be turned into a monster!! From Y-pipes to SCs, im getting to feel like being stock just aint enough.........
But im pretty sure im gonna sell the car after a year, 'cause the new A4, S4, 330ci or even an M3 is just a much better car than a nissan. However, after seeing that many parts that can really transform my car into a 300+hp M3 slayer. It really got me going for about 5 minutes.......working to various parts combo in my head and calculating hps and dollars......I can see why so many people on this board are so addicted in these mods and the max.
However, i have to say im a smart man and not get affected by this BUG or virus, i think i'll rather spend money on a better car, 'cause right now, i think my car looks ok, after a few things i did..............OK, thats my excuse......whewwwwwww,,,..there, i said it, dont think about it anymore.

00'SE 5spd,
18x8 OZ F1 racings, tint....

I doubt getting every mod in Stillen's book will make the Max into an "M3 Slayer".

Where I come from the A4, S4 and 330ci are all cars which cost about 50% more than a '02 6spd. They are also all cars which weigh 150+ lbs more than the Maxima and have less HP. Certainly they may be more refined but for the extra money they certainly should be.

As for the M3, well that car costs about twice as much as the Maxima and has performance to rival the Vette, I'm not sure how someone could compare it to a Maxima. Nothing like comparing apples and oranges. I'd love to have a new M3 but I really can't see having that much money wrapped up in a car which probably shouldn't be driven through a Canadian winter.

I got my '00 A4 for about the same as my 00' max, yes its slower at first, but after a chip/exhaust its about the same, but 02's are another story of course. But for roughly the same price im sure the 02' A4 is gonna be BETTER, speed isnt everything when it comes to my daily drivers.

I did say "where I come from". A fully equipped '02 6spd Maxima lists at $36,900. The 330ci lists for $45,000 but to get it similarly eqipped as the '02 Maxima you need to add two option packages at just over $5,000 EACH. While I didn't investigate the A4/S4s very closely I do see USED S4s regularly selling for around $46,000 so I'll admit I don't know much about the A4 other than that it's slower and certainly not LESS expensive, and the reliability factor isn't as good according to Consumers Reports.

While I don't necessarily think speed is everything the fact that you had to add a chip/exhaust to make your A4 as fast as a STOCK '00 Maxima means speed must have some influence on you, trust me, such mods wont even get you close to the '02 Maxima. Hey, afterall this is a MAXIMA board, you didn't really expect to find me agreeing with you.

Hey very good argument, i know im stepping on my self somewhere. Yes, speed is very important. But im getting snobbish as i get older and would love refinement and name recognition too.

Hey I know what you mean, I've had a hard time since I traded my Lexus SC400 for the Maxima, so I'm consoling myself by modifing the Max. enough to know I can blow the doors of that SC, not to mention it's way easier to justify the kind of money the Maxima costs vs. another Lexus.

Thats a big seling feature. It is a car that look nice, has aftermarket support somewhat and is around the right price.

That would be a REAL step down for me, if im coming from a SC400 to a maxima, i really love the interior and quality of the SC, the maxima just makes sense if u need room in the back, otherwise, this just look like a sad story.

I wouldn't characterize it as a REAL step down, but will admit it to be a step down, well except for the performance factor. The SC400 only had 250HP even the newest ones (ie. 1998-2000) only have 290HP yet the car weighs 500 lbs more than the Maxima never mind the lack of manual transmission on the SC, and I'll soon have about 290 HP coming out of my Max anyway. So don't be crying for me because I ain't sad about this, as a matter of fact when I'm driving the Max I tend to have a pretty good smile on my face.

I regularly travel with two bicycles which cost over $10,000 each. I got tired of have them stuck on the roof of the SC, now with the Maxima I can easily get both of them in the back seat area (with the lower cushion removed and some mounting brackets held down by using the seatbelt anchor bolts). The only new Lexus which interested me was the SC430, but at double the cost and with even less room than the SC400 it didn't make much sense.
