Learned something new about my Max

I had no idea there was a 'hidden' compartment under the center armrest.
Looks pretty useless, maybe use it for pens?

I don't know what make me pull the armrest up, but there it was...

It's a center console, man. Every car I've ever driven has one. That's where I keep my wallet, chargers, and all that other good stuff. I thought its placement and existence in just about every car ever made is common knowledge...

:matt93se: of here! You should be for just figuring this out. Ok enough flaming

On a serious note, I use this spot for buisiness cards, parking garage pay stubs, and pens.

He's refering to the smaller one that's actually INSIDE the arm rest assembly. Not in the console.

I want to roll my eyes at this silliness, but it was only this year that I discovered the windows would roll down by twisting the key in the door lock. And even though I've had my car forever, it was just a few months ago that I discovered how to turn on/off the horn in conjunction with the key fob. (Of course, neither of those things are quite as obvious as the armrest lid.)

Still, it's nice to see you get excited about your car. Never too old for that, eh Troop? Even at 50.

Did everyone also know that if you turn your headlight switch to "Auto" the car figures out when the most appropriate time to turn the headlights on is?

Oh, and if you put the key in the ignition and turn it half way, only the accessories come on, and the car doesn't actually start?

For me, the "holding the unlock button on the keyfob" to drop the windows was a nice surprise.

All we needed was a little honesty to turn this thread from a mock-fest into something a little more real. (Just a little )

I think we're all out of "discoveries", but let's see.

You're confusing post-count with relevance. Classic newbie misconception.

Troop- don't listen to those sourpusses

For weeks after first getting my car on the road, I heard something knocking around in the "lid" of my center console, but I couldn't figure out how to get in there to figure out what it was, until one day my curiosity simply overcame my fear of breaking the thing, and I gave it a good yank.

To my surprise, I found it was a keyfob, aftermarket, but still, the only one I now have for the car. The PO never mentioned he had one, simply a lone key. Well of course I went to pressing buttons, to see if it was programmed for the car, all the lock/unlock/trunk buttons worked, but the coolest thing was that the last one I tried turned the engine over!!

I've been enjoying my remote start every since Dude told he had that car for years, and never mentioned it, the PPO must have had it installed. File that under "misc things found in previously unknown center console lid"

Yeah, I second that! A remote start laying around? Ha! Funny stuff.

That "hidden" "upper" center console really confused the kids that broke into my car. They guessed correctly that I keep CDs in my center console, but didn't hit the slightly recessed button to pop the lid, just ripped on the whole thing like it is some cheap Impala console. Well, they popped up the armrest piece and then yanked it off, exposing the "hidden" compartment that contains... NOTHING!

@Rochester: Shortly after I bought my car, my 4th gen owning friend showed me the unlock-button-rolls-down-the-windows trick. I read through my owner's manual the day I got the car, so I already knew you could roll them down just by sticking the key in the door, but didn't realize the fob offered the same convenience from 30 feet away. Nice!

I still dont know what those 3 buttons on the top of my drivers side doors do , as well as the ones on my rear view mirror............

.............and recently when cleaning the car did I find out that when you take the up front cup holder out ...you get two bigger holes !

Yeah...didn't know about the console lid either. I guess I should thank whoever left it open after he/she took a few things out of my car while it was valet parked at an Atlanta hotel. If he/she didn't take my stuff, I still wouldn't know about it.

You mean the memory seats? They store seat position settings so that if someone messes with your seat adjustments, you can just tap the button, and it'll go back to where you want it.

Nice feature, really...but nobody drives my car but me. So it's kind of useless.

The rear view mirror buttons let you turn on/off the auto-dimming feature...

...which means you just discovered the auto-dimming feature, doesn't it?

This thread has a whole lot of funny in it.

Na, but maybe TroopMax...

I wonder why I've never seen 5th gen threads regarding stuff you like or stuff you don't like about your Max. Two of the best and long-lasting threads on the Altima forums are the "Things I love about my Altima" and also the opposite thread...
