I may have to sell my Max :(

Hello, I may have to sell my max to get me a cheaper ride cuz I'm going through some rough times...

I want to know what would be a reasonable price to ask for.

- 2003 Maxima SE, 6spd HLSD
- Sterling Mist Silver
- Titanium Edition, Meridian Edition
- 104,000 miles
- All options except GPS
- Leather power heated seats
- Sun Roof
- Bose sound system
- Auto dim rear view mirror
- Chrome rims
- New tires (less than 2kmiles on them)
- New brake rotors and pads (less than 2kmiles on them)
- No problems with the car except some slight clunking noise when driving on bumps, typical with Maxima suspension
- 3000K HID fog lights
- Stillen RSB

The car is in great cosmetic condition inside and out, except from a few rock chips on the hood, and a few paint scratches on the door due to people not being careful opening their doors...

Thanks!

I'm guessing 4K on trade, 5-6K in private sale, and 7K for the motivated buyer.

Why not? You'd think an '03 TE 6MT HLSD would be in demand, no?

I paid $8,500 for it a year and a half ago with 77K miles... So if I can get $7,000 for it, that's OK with me, that's a $1,500 loss in a year and a half for lots of fun...

I love this car though... it'll be hard to let it go...

on here...IF there was someone that ACTUALLY was going to buy it, id say they would try to undersell him down to 5k. not to mention...so id say no and post it on CL and autotrader, etc

I get it, hard times, but what kind of beater are you thinking of getting with the cash? Are you still making payments? If not, I don't get the point of selling it...

Say you sell it for 7K, find a beater for 3k, but have to put $1k into it right off just to get it road worthy. That leaves you with only 3k to deal with your current financial situation...What if the beater costs you more or you make less on the Max?

All I'm saying is, keep the car, find another way to fix your finances. I could see if you still owed 10k or more on a newer car, and just wanted to get out from under the payments. But in this case you're only going to hurt yourself...

^no offense, but you dont necessarily know his complete situation, so to say hurting himself for getting from under a payment is a presumptuous thought on HIS financial problems

no sh!+ I don't know his situation outside the tidbits of info in the thread. I thought it was obvious I was presuming, since I don't even know if he's getting out from under payments or just trying to get fast cash. Either way, he came to a public forum, and got an opinion that may or may not help.

My suggestion stands. Sometimes it's ok to hear other people's thoughts, taken with a grain of salt as general practice. But in the end, it's his decision, and I certainly have no emotionally attachment either way.

Back to the OP, if you're going to take a loss like this, make sure it's well thought out, and the only way out before you throw away what you've already got invested in the car.

This is the reason why I said I may have to get rid of my Maxima. I am still weighing different options and wanted to know how much I can expect to get for the car so I can do the math and see if it's worth it...

I won't get into details about my situation, but I need to come up with about $4k very soon which I don't have right now...

i'm not trying to lowball your situation and dont know when you have to have your money..depending on when you need to sell...to probably have a firm buyer in a short amount of time i would say about $5500. i KNOW/sure your car is worth more, just trying to be a little realistic.

The best way out is if someone was to rearend you at a light, and his insurance pays out at retail blue book plus tax. What's the retail blue on this car, probably close to $8000?

they actually pay you blackbook value/what a dealer would sell it for, which is said to be closer to NADA value

That might make sense, especially if your credit is good and you belong to a local credit union that would refinance it for you at a decent rate.

I wish I could buy your car from you to help you out, but it'd involve giving you my inferior '02. =(

You might be able to 6K out of it private sale. Don't trade it in obviously unless you want all of $3-4k for it. Not many people actually want a manual family sedan honestly, but if you can find the right buyer...
