Headunit scratch removal (pics)
My factory Bose headunit had TERRIBLE scratches all over it. I decided to take the screen off and polish it!
Before:
The screen simply pops off, but its not extremely easy. You can grab the sides with your fingernails, but it's locked in the middle just above my fingers in the picture. you need to wiggle it a bit and work it off.
I used my Flex 3401 DA polisher along with Meguiars M205 Finishing Polish that I got from DetailedImage.com for my detailing business. I polished all the scratches for a good 10-15 minutes total (stopping frequently, so heat didn't build up).
By polishing, you're wearing away a thin layer of the material you're using it on, enough to get to the level of a scratch. With that said, notice the "VOL" label is gone. This is because I had to polish deep scratches out from near the volume ****. The scratches weren't as bad near the "6CD CHANGER" label, so I didn't spend much time there.
And the final result:
The auto climate control screen, gauge cluster screen, and clock screen were scratched as well, and they polish out very nicely too!

Looks good...
I might give this a shot now...I have bad scratches all over the gauge cluster screen, so I might try that too.
OP, what kind of pad did you use on the buffer? I'm guessing foam?
