Wheel question.

Hey guys I have a question concerning a set of wheels I want to buy. They are factory bbs mesh wheels off of an older bmw that my friend has. The lug pattern being 5X120, and ofc the 5th gen max has a lug pattern of 5X114.3 and ive found an adapter online that would allow me to fit these wheels on my car. However the question lies with the offset of the wheels. Will that be an issue, if the adapter is 1" thick??

I think the wheels have an offset of 20 and here are the adapters http://adaptitusa.com/5x450to5x120wheeladapter.aspx.
Btw the rims are 17X8 all the way around

With the adaptors you'd definitely be pushing it offset wise..

Not sure what the offest of the Beemer wheels but a 1" (25.4mm) push a lot. But I think you might get away with it. The wheels you see on my sig are 18x8 +42. I slapped a 25mm spacer on (before I slammed her down) and I had the slightest pokage. Offset is the key. If you do get away with it slightly, roll your fenders for safety.

taking what you said about the wheels having a 20+ offset[which i doubt is right]....you'll be adding a 25.4mm(1") adapter to that....unless you're going for a stance no need to go with such low offsets...

this is how i look at it...anything beyond 15mm spacers/adapters is unnecessary and would concern me about the safety...my opinion, save yourself the money and do it right by buying the right rims with the desired offsets

Im confused in general about the entire offset subject. Can someone explain what exactly that is? And the rims have an offset of 20 but im confused as to why that would be a safety issue if I used the adapters to fit them on my max?

Lower offset = wheel closer to fender.

+20 offset is already super low as it is (especially with a 8" wide rim) and would poke out past the fender.

With the adapter it'll most likely push the wheel out another 20-25mm on top of that, giving you a +0 or -5 offset which would look rediculous and be unsafe on a Maxima.

Just get other rims..

+20 is a pretty aggressive offset for maximas as it is. That adapter would be way too much. Agreed...go with different wheels!

easiest way to explain offset is "the lower the offset, the more the wheel will move outwards"...a wheel with a 20+ offset would stick out more than a wheel with a 30+ offset[given that wheel widths are the same]....if you add a 10mm spacer to a wheel with 30+ offset, the offset becomes 20+...here are some pics for a better explanation[everything u need to know about wheel fitment in detail...LINK]

example of a really low offset[notice how the wheel sticks out of the fender]:

another example of a low offset[again, notice how they stick out of the fenders due to very low offsets]:

example of a high offset[notice how that fender is swallowing the wheel due to high/stock offsets....more noticeable in the rear]:

take a look at this also for a better idea....
to answer your question about the safety issue...here[scroll down to warnings]

hope i didn't confuse you more...sorry in advance if i did
