Ford upgraded the wimpy 3.0L V6 from the Five Hundred, and they replaced the CVT from the Five Hundred with a proper, geared transmission. The 5th gen Taurus was actually a pretty decent ride.

So although the 6.5 gen Max had far more HP and handling than the Five Hundred, the driving experience between the Five Hundred and the 6.5 Maxima was pretty much the same with respect to the transmission: nnn-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n
You completely missed my point...I test drove a 2009 Taurus, and the 07 Maxima in the same week. Despite anything you have to say about the 07 500 with the 3.0, it was the 2009 Taurus with 265 hp and conventional transmission that I was comparing to the 07 Max.

I was origionally partial to the Taurus for the big a$$ trunk and better gas mileage/regular vs premium, until I drove the Maxima. In all drivability comparisons, the max experience well surpassed that of the Taurus. Side by side, the Max spanked the Taurus...which from your position was a better car then the 07 500.

My point, I think you've opinion is grossly inaccurate, and full of poo...

Well, that's possible. Grossly over-generalized, perhaps. Full of poo? (heh heh) OK.

I've actually driven all of the cars mentioned here at one time or another, but certainly not back-2-back like you're describing. Somewhat along the lines of what you just said, I'd even take the 7th Gen Max over the SHO; (which I've also driven. Hated it.) We are both so OT anyway. I'm kind of confused what the point was in the first place.

No wait... I see the confusion now:

You: 5th gen Taurus compared to 7.0 gen Maxima
Me: Ford Five Hundred compared to 6.5 gen Maxima

Looking at that now, I think we're both making goofy comparisons. And the world spins on.

why not? id dump hella money into an older car than dumping my money into a stealership. 5g for a car + 5g for upgraded repairs eg beefy suspension parts + peace of mind of defects + maintanance VS 5g down payment + interest + remaining balance + mantainance and no room for blingys. One reason to have a 5G
