Interesting tangle with an 01' 500SL

This morning on the way to work, I pulled out of Starbucks on to the feeder of the Beltway. At the first light I pulled up behind a very clean (2001?) 500SL with an older male driver. He was looking at me in the rearview...when the green came, he took off like a bat out of hell. I nailed to the floor in 2nd (auto) we ran to about 90 with a clear road to the next light. I stayed one car length behind him, right where I started. That car is fast! He may not have even been WOT...I was. He gave me a surpised look when I pulled next to him at the next light where he turned. It was a good morning.

I drove a 500SL for a couple of summers. Very nice car but it is a tank! I think a 2K2 Auto could hold it's own against one. Top end though the SL would pull away easily.
