Then i realize my key less entry, rear defogger, and map lights don't work. I search and find out its my secu i go back to the car look around the gas pedal and theres nothing there. I see the bracket that holds the secu but the secu is no where to be found. This car's killing me... can someone please!!!!!!!!!! tell me where to trace the secu with pictures. I dont know what the previous owner did but i went outside mulitple times to continue to look for it but i cant find it all!!

please help me!!!!!!
I have a 2000 Max and mine is up under the dash on the driver's side about even with the console. If I were to cut everything free, I could not move it around very much, there is not very much slack in the wire harness. My SECU is a beige plastic box with 2 connectors on it. In late production 2001 and there after, the SECU had 3 connectors on it.
You could also try disconnecting the battery for 10-15 minutes and this may reset the SECU.
Here is a photo of mine, taken from outside the car on the driver's side, looking up under the dash towards the console.

yea i have the beige box as well. I called Dave B. and told him my situation he said that beige box is for the pats (passive theft system). He said theres another box that is the secu. Im so confused is there one box or 2? what is the beige box? ughh thanks DennisMik
btw i switched this beige box already from the totaled one and theres still no change

That's very interesting. I am unable to find any reference to a "pats" in the FSM and I have found two locator drawings that show the beige box as being the SECU. I hope another org mamber can expand upon Dave B's statement.
yes im so confused on this one, i need my keyless entry and maplights... now i have to manually unlock and lock the rear and front doors when i have guests... plus its always snowing now and i have no rear defrost anyone????
i searched the parts number on google and secu is coming up... ugh this makes no sense, i even switched it out... why is it still not working?
bump

i did look at my fuses, i literally purchased a 100 pack for $30 and replaced every single one under the steering column. I wouldn't even post this thread if i didn't check fuses.
i read something on google about a circuit breaker? can anyone tell me more about this?

i'm not an idiot NmexMAX. After SEARCHING, ive read about people who couldn't find a bad fuse... but after replacing them all, they got it to work. Sometimes the broken metal in the fuse is to small to see.. thus i replaced them all. Anyone know about any relays that could be the problem? thanks!
Ok, then try being a little more informative in your posts, as always on a forum, you need to help us help you.
Check the fuses under the hood and the relays too.

okay thanks NmexMAX, by the looks of it; theres no specific fuses controlling the SECU, (i dont know if someone can tell me otherwise). I changed the secu, checked all fuses in the car and under the hood. i dont know what else can be the problem?? it makes no sense

Look at your fuses.
try and find the one that is burnt.
