No issues.

I have the same one. It'll just make your catback's muffler tips poke out a bit more.

The one I had was also an inch too long. It made the catback touch the heat shield near the gas tank... but I took a hammer to it, and it was no longer a problem.

SS piping = no glasspack resonators = rasp.

My car sounded like hell when I put an unresonated testpipe we built on...putting the eBay/Megan testpipe on made it all better. Or mostly better.

Actually, that might not be too far off if your cat is old and worn out.

I picked up a lot of midrange torque when I put my test pipe on.

Fixed.

You know what, the OP can have his fun and enjoy his test-pipe, smog be damned. All I'm saying is when people advertise crap like "instant 10 - 15 hp increase" because of a stupid test pipe, they don't deserve your hard-earned money. They deserve a kick in the head.

Did this a few month ago on my 2003 and had no problems. Didn't even have enough room under the car to bend my arms at all but still managed to get the bolts off.

If you're worried about rusty bolts, get the cat hot, hit it with some PB blaster...by some I mean a lot...and once it's cooled a little, take an impact and zap the bolts off.

The test pipe comes with new hardware, so even if you strip a bolt or two, it's not really that big a deal. Unless you're planning on reinstalling the cat. Then you might have some issues...

Are they obviously vehicle specific when they state the increase? There *are* cars that gain that much off a test pipe, mostly stock turbo vehicles... but they exist. False marketing to a maxima owner, but hey... 10-15hp (for someone)

Sparks has a point.

Hell, N/A LS motors see huge gains from even stupid, basic bolt-ons like cold air intakes.

I remember when I cut up the air box on my Trans Am so the engine could breathe better. The car felt a lot more responsive at WOT.

Even our cars see pretty good numbers from basic bolt-ons. But that just comes with having a fairly high-compression motor.

A test pipe vs a healthy cat (or especially high flow cat like cattman fastcat) is only going to gain you a bunch of rasp, exhaust pops, some volume, and optimistically 1-2hp. Unless you want those things or can't afford a cat replacement, I'd recommend going with a cat converter... Of course I'm saying this without any cats on my car.

hmm..when i had my hotshots put on with the stock cat, my cattman exhaust had to be cut and inch..i wonder if a test pipe would have made it all right..

Honestly, my test pipe isn't that raspy, even at WOT.

It does pop quite a bit, though. But my car did that even before I had the test pipe, when I still had headers/cat/2.5"catback...

I even heard some people get the 95 -99 one cause they are the exact length of the stock cat of the 00-03 but I guess some need a little more poke out than others of the tips..

Mine has absolutely no rasp at all. However, that doesn't refute the fact that you will get more rasp without a cat. You don't have to believe me if you don't want to, but I've had setups including stock cat, cattman fast cat, and a test pipe across a wide assortment of various headers + stockish, 2.5", and 3" exhausts. Just ask my wallet

Oh, you undoubtedly will get more noise.

Then again, outside of rev-up videos, I've never really had the opportunity to hear my car from outside the cabin since I'm the only one allowed to touch the steering wheel...so if my cars rasps, I can't hear it because the carpet/seats/etc. muffle it out.

Trust me, I know you of all people should know about exhaust sounds. I've seen the threads.

Did you not install the washers with the nuts and bolts?

I've never had this issue before. If anything, I'd rather have this issue than the issues I have when a bolt's been on the exhaust for three or four months.

I see what you did there.

However, the SB manufacturer never, ever made claims about increased HP where none exist. That little rewrite came right out of your dookie, essential1.

A lock washer might be a better bet. Not as messy, and it should keep the bolts in place.
