02 max no go

So i was going down the highway this evening, playing with a diesel pickup. Not beating on it too hard. My SES light comes on and the car starts slowing down. I press the accelerator and it will not speed up. I pull to the side of the road and the car will just idle. If i push the accelerator down it does nothing, maybe goes up 200 rpm. Had it towed to the Nissan dealership and will talk to them tomorrow. Any ideas what could be the issue?

Do you mean that it will go up to 2000 RPM?....not 200.....if so....then likely it is the MAF..

When i shut it off and start it back up it will start, then die right away. if i try it a few times it will evenually stay running, then i can give it gas 1 time and it will rev. after that it does nothing.

Yea, you definitely need a MAF. I'm pretty sure if you have the car scanned, it'll come up with that code.

It turns out that the MAF was fine. The throttle body actually went kaput. The dealership said the plate was not moving at all. So now I have a brand new throttle body and the car is running better than ever. I also had a coupon and got 15% off parts and labor. =)

That's funny....it gives almost the same symptoms that a failed MAF gives....makes sense though.....sucks though.....how often does a throttle body fail....

i never would have thought it could have been the throttle body. Good thing it was, the MAF was about $100 more. Although i would have gotten one and installed it myself. The throttle body i didnt want to touch because i hear they are very sensitive.

I don't even want to ask how much they charged you for that.

Well with my coupon it came out to about $385. But like i said, its running better than ever so im not going to complain too much about the cost.

Actually, I would have guessed the fuel pump went out, that's pretty much how my Celica ran when the pump died. Start and idle fine, give it gas and it would die.

Good thing you had the coupon.

I'm not sure why it stopped working. I'm assuming it was something electronic in the drive by wire system.

THAT's a new one!

Interesting -- my first guess was MAF too.

When your car dies -- and you don't know what the hell is wrong....suddenly $385 is a small price to pay to have it running properly again, isn't it?!?!

Sure is. I think it's been acting up for a while now. A few weeks ago I was leaving work and the car didn't want to start. And it has been starting wierd lately. I'm anxious to see if the hesitation that it has always had is gone.
