ses codes need help
hey guys im need some help with resetign a code. i get the p1574 and the p0113 i tried to erase the codes but i only managed to erase the p1574 the guy i bought the car from said he had just replaced the maf sensor. i did not know i had check engine light on because there is no dam bulb in the socker lol. i foudn out when i had the car smoged and the dude told it had a code. so how do i reset the code is there a special prcedure to this, like disconnecting the baterry. i sure would appreciate the help. by the way its a 03 maxima. thanks
Read the instruction carefully as the timing is critical
Not sure how this will help until you replace the missing SES bulb in your display
How To Reset The 2002+ Maxima ECU
1. With the car OFF, release the gas pedal completely.
2. Turn the key to the ignition position, and wait 3 seconds (Do Not Start The Engine)
3. Do this 5 times within 5 seconds
a. Press the gas pedal all the way to the floor
b. Release gas pedal completely
4. Wait 7 seconds, Then press the gas pedal all the way to the floor and hold for 10 seconds
5. When the SES light starts flashing, release the gas pedal
Okay at this point you will observe that you get 10 slow flashes, you have now entered the diagnostic section of the ECU. Once the 10 long flashes have finished, the next sequence of flashes will be the codes you are trying to find out. As an example you may see 1 short flash – 4 short flashes – 4 short flashes – 8 short flashes (hence the code #1448) if you have an additional code that sequence will then start .ie 4 short flashes – 5 short flashes – 5 short flashes (code #455 /or know as 0455). If the ECU has no more problem codes it will once again return to the 10 slow long flashes once completed it will resend the trouble codes again until you finish the reset.
6. Press and hold the gas pedal all the way to the floor for 10 more seconds
7. When the SES lights starts flashing release the gas pedal completely
8. The SES light should flash 10 times and then pause, then flash 10 short flashes, 10 more short flashes, and then 10 more short flashes and then finish with 10 slow long flashes. ** this tells you the reset has been completed
9. At this point you want to turn off the ignition key
10. Wait 3 seconds and then restart the car
Your SES light should now NOT be light, unless the problem still exists.

The P0113 is IAT sensor (Intake Air Temperature) sensor. This sensor is in the maf that the guy told you he replaced. Hopefully the SES light will go off when you follow the procedure that Ghost 54 gave you.
Well as I said, if your SES light currently is not operating you will not be able to use the reset I listed as you have to be able to count of the flashing sequences. I have used this reset a few times to get my codes when they come up as I don't own an OBD2 reader. It most definitely does work if performed correctly (took me a couple of times to get it right). Sure hope the guy replaced that MAF (but I am thinking he knew the problem) and removed the bulb. The p1574 is your speed sensor (could be ABS related) again I hope not (expensive).
How does the car drive? is it a manual or an automatic?

You can try clean the MAF first

the 03 MAF's are very pricey, so most of the guys perform this to a 00-01 MAF for their 03 Max's

and of course should you require parts contact
Make sure to ask for David Burnette in the Parts dept.

the car drives great its an automatic ima going to see if i can replace the bulb tommroow and try to perform teh clearing procedure. why is it that i can remove the code with obd2 scanner?
hey ghost54 i read over the maf thread you posted above and correct me if im wrong all i have to do i transfer the small metal string looking thing, i think they called it the thermister, form the old maf to the new one and thats it. i did look into the buying a new maf but its 300+ dollars so that no right now lol
Well yes that was what I was getting at, but as it was pointed out by DennisMik it may very well be the thermistor that is gone ... I am sure one of the guys will jump in and correct me on my suggestion.
You also said you have P1574 which is a speed sensor and if defective you can reset the SES light all day long and it will just go off again until to repair the fault sensor, should that be the problem.
I had always thought that when the MAF was defective on an 02-03 that it was an internal problem within the MAF sensor its self, and what the guys had determined was you could purchase the less expensive 00-01 MAF (for around 100.00) and then transfer the thermistor from your old MAF onto the replacement one.

holy smokes ghost 54 i didnt even know that was possible to do in a 2002..its different in the 00-01's right? you cannot resest it the same way..its a different procedure Ive heard in other threads..do you know by any chance what that is?
I did a search here as well as on Google I even checked TheOwensFamily TSB and the best I could come with for the 00-01 was to disconnect the battery for a minimum of 20 mins. You will have to try it and see if it works for clearing the ECU codes that may be stored.
