key stuck in ignition

Other than the simple wheel lock... what would be another reason why a key would get stuck in the ignition???... I'm a tad puzzled on this

Question, does the gear indicator on the dash show that it's in neutral when this happens? If it is, then they spliced the wrong wire...

Sounds about right. Or steering wheel can be locked

Its not the steering locked... the car started. And it wouldn't have started unless the park n neutral wire wasn't grounded... the car also wouldn start with the steering lock I could turn the key... just not take it out

The tumbler in the lock may be bad, or the key is just worn down.

I had an 84 olds I could start the car, and pull the key right out. was really cool at the beach I could turn it back to aux, pull the key, and if someone came along and tried to start it they'd get stuck in the lock position going forward...plus I was too cheap to get it fixed anyway...

But your problem may require something being replaced. If you do get it out, inspect the key/try the spare.

You tried wiggling the steering wheel a lil to see if it would come out.

When the car is running, does the gear indicator on the dash say neutral?

What I'm saying is that this isn't the problem bro, if it was I wouldn't be able to turn the key to crank the motor... the key turns... it just won't come out the ignition

If it says neutral on the indicator then the wrong wire was spliced. Basically, the car thinks that the 'shift lever' is not in park.

If it's not that, there's something wrong with the ignition cylinder/tumbler.

My only time having that happen in an auto car was when the car was in neutral instead of park. Either you forgot to put it neutral or possibly the car thought it was in netural? Either way, glad you got it out.

My son's key got stuck in his 2000 GXE. He was able to turn the wheel and get it out, but it didn't come easy. Also, it would NOT turn to start the car. We had it towed home yesterday.

I went out tonight and sprayed some powdered graphite lock lubricant in the top and bottom of the keyhole. I then inserted and removed the key about 5 or 6 times to spread it around inside the lock.

Voila. The key now turns in the ignition and seems to work perfectly!!
