I have a 2003 SLE model with the 'sport-tuned' suspension.

The ride is WAY to stiff. Small bumps feel GIANT. It is VERY uncomfortable to me.

I understand the GLE / GXE models are NOT 'sport-tuned' and have a softer, more 'touring-style' ride.

Peter at Poway Nissan says these are the OEM replacement part #'s and prices for GLE / GXE shocks/ struts;

Front 54302-6y425 list price 171.12 internet price 136.89
Front 54303-6y425 list price 171.12 internet price 136.89

Rear 56210-6y425 list price 139.08 internet price 111.26

Also, the rear springs are different, contributing to the stiffer ride;

55020-2y017 list price 152.22 and internet price of 121.77 each

According to my calculations, the total price for the parts for an entire swap would be $628.58 plus shipping.

Can someone respond who has been in the same situation and swapped for a softer ride?

Can anyone confirm OEM replacement parts & prices that will provide the softer ride I am looking for?

Any other suggestions, info or ideas?

Thanks

What tires do you currently have? If they are a UHP summer tire, that is a lot of the problem. Might want to try a touring V rated tire with a 225/55/17 size. That should noticeably smooth the ride for you.

I have falken Ziex 912's 225 50R17.

This is the same tire that I had on my 4th gen 1996 maxina, and the ride was perfect for.

I would tend to think the bulk of my problem is the sport suspension.

I had those too. Decent tires but not much straight line traction at lower speeds when cold. But, they are a UHP tire and have a pretty firm ride. Plus if the tires are getting worn, that makes the ride worse as well.

I had Bridgestone RE-760 sports on my other Maxima when it got totaled-I could literally feel paint stripes when I went over them. My 6MT has Cooper RS4 touring V rated tires and the difference in the ride is very noticeable even though both cars are SE models. Really smooth in comparison and we have crap roads here. When I was in Phoenix a couple times last year, it was like I was driving on carpet even with the 760 sports.

Just trying to give you another option that might save you some time and money.
