I need an ecu for a 2001 I30 and was wondering if the ecu from a 5th gen max will work as a direct replacement?

 

Yes it will, but you do know you will need to get your key programmed for the new ECU/NATS?

This is a dealer only type of deal, and make sure you match Cali-specs, etc.

 

Ah thanks for the heads up on that. How do I know whether the i30 is Cali or not? And how do I know if the max is Cali or not?

 

Either one or both of two things: 1. Look at the emissions sticker on the underside of the hood, or 2. Cali has 4 O2 sensors and Federal-spec has 3. There's quite a few little wiring harness differences, but I don't know the specifics.
