TSB MAF replacement question

NTB03-022
NTB03-023

In both these TSB if you have an early production 02 model a maf sensor replacement is needed as well as the ecu upgrade.

Would this indicate that they know that the maf in early production 02 are so crappy they recommend u pull it or does it actually have a different range it puts out to the ecu? I am curious if it is a compatability issue or not.

My other question if it is a compatability issue would a 2k1 maf sensor that has been installed with the thermister swap be considered the same as a early 2k2 or the upgraded maf?

I have searched on this and there isnt much out there other then a few people asking about the maf replacement. I have the 2k1 upgraded maf for under 100 bucks and besides my engine going to crap I did have issues that seems to relate to the tsb posted above.

I would like to pay nissan to do the ecu update to my ecu but if it will force me to buy the expensive maf I would rather be completely sure of needed that work before it is done. Thanks in advance.

I have the same combination......2k1(with thermister swab) then updated ECU at a Nissan dealer....If you ask me before and after the ECU update , I noticed null improvment in terms of everything (MPG , acceleration ... etc.).

I regret buying a NON-OEM replacement MAFS. Calibration seems to be a common problem amongst the cheapies.

Nothing specific apart from occasional lack of power........MPG is slighlty less now , had them also bump the timing to 17 ,and now it pings (I use shell 93 aaaaaaalways).Might think to return it back to 15 when I will have the chance cause it never pinged before.....

I wonder if a colder plug or something would help that.
