Raising coilover question

You don't need the wrenches to raise the car, do you? I think some people think that you tighten the springs to raise the car but I don't know why you would do that. That's just going to make the springs stiffer. Forgive me, but I thought you just undo the bolt on the bottom of the coilover and turn the bottom counter clock wise to raise it and bolt it back in. You should be able to tighten that bottom collar enough with another tool since it's not under the tension that the collars under the spring are at, right?

The reason I ask is because I can't find my wrenches and I need this done today. I have an appt on Tues with Nissan to replace my axles under warranty and I'm like 200 miles from being out of warranty on them

What kind of coil overs do you have? I know with Ksports you have unbolt the lower mount, loosen the rings and spin it up or down accordingly. If you dont have the spanner wrenches you can use a flathead screw driver and a hammer, just be careful. lol

NEX GT coils. I figured something like that would work too lol but I wouldn't have to loosen the rings if I'm raising it, I would need to tighten them which should be way easier, right?

If those coilovers are like bc racing coilovers then yes I'm pretty sure you can without wrenches

I use a universal oil filter wrench on mine. Clamp onto it with a rag so you wont damage the teeth.

It works. Those collars arent that tight. The hammer and screwdriver works too but you run the risk of chipping a piece of it off if you dont know what youre doing. Cant go wrong with an oil filter wrench.

I've been meaning to try that for a long time, but never got around to it. My flimsy ksport wrench actually bent a while back from me trying to get a collar loose.

Give it a shot. Those oil filter wrenches go for about $8 at your local auto parts stores.

^^^^^^

Thats awsome that tein incorperated that 1/2" drive notch in the wrenches. So I assume that they are actually made strong enough to withstand that amount of tourqe unlike the ksports... lol

Yup, they actually make a half decent product. If the wrenches these companies make to adjust the coilovers can't even hold up to adjusting them, what does that indicate about the rest of their products?

And the Tein wrenches even have a hex head slot at the end for additional leverage, or if you needed a different location to get on it. I guess you get what you pay for on the adjusters at least...

Got it done and I only found the big wrench (of course) and god d@mn were the collars tight as ****! Used the screwdrive and hammer method and it took a while to break the fronts loose. My left rear is up a little too much but I will fix that another day. It's sad having to see the car raised lol
