Kukx30de's progress thread

My good ole gle finally rolled over 200k over the weekend

Now starts my so called major maintenance work:-
- front valve cover gasket and tube seals
- spark plugs.. Changing over to NGK iridiums
- trans pan gasket. Not leaking but has wet look now. Will swap over to Nissan matic-d during refill.
- upper oil pan gasket.
- all 4 o2 sensors. Getting Bosch universal for the downstream and denso for the upstream. Thanks advance auto for 35 off 85 and 25 off 60 coupons.
- adding fstb.
- tire rotation.
- oil change.
- detail.

Hoping this goes through without any major issues.

Update 1:
Did my oil change today.

Observations:
- What totally scared me as a head gasket leak is actually the front valve cover. I knew it was leaking but to see oil around the stock exhaust manifold scared me. Looked closer to confirm the leak was coming down from around the manifold and NOT the Head gasket!
- I need to replace my right bank o2 sensor. Seems to be throwing a P0138 and P0139. I might just do both primaries and that one secondary. It was interesting to see that the stock O2 sensor was Bosch and not NGK or Denso as I thought it would be.

Upper oil pan will probably be the last thing I do since I will have to take a day off or something for it.

Working during the day and getting a couple hours in the evening.

Will post pics and more observations tomorrow.

It has been such a long time
I guess when the car runs fine being on the forums is just not needed

I found an old SD card with some pics I had taken over the last year so had to update my thread!

Started with a conversation of my crappy 5th gen seats to 5.5 gen!

5th or 5.5... choice is obvious!

And then I had to get to my upper oil pan... did that right as we hit 200K... now at 218K and purring away without issues. Just have slight oil burning now, about half quart over 3500-4000 miles.. yeah I extended the OCI by a 1000.

All set for the upper oil pan

Oil pan dropped.. great to see no metal at all!

Upper oil pan dropped.. not bad looking for 200K

$15 pieces that dealer wanted over $1K to replace!

You can see that common leak spot.. mine was bad... had to put a shower curtain cut up to avoid stains in the garage.

And all sealed up!

Adding some shots from our road trip from Jacksonville, FL to Denver, CO last yr!
Yes, with a little elbow grease, Menzerna Polishes, Wolfgang wax and sealants... even a car with 218K looks great!

And most recently, wife hit a mailbox!.. of course had to try my hand at minor scratch fixing.

Will any 5.5 gen leather seat fit in the 5th gens? My driver seat is in horrible condition, AND I've taken really good care of it. The car is almost 15 years old though.

Question, where did you have your car supported with the jacks? I see the one in the front you have but can't tell where it's supported. Great write up, I'll be tackling this also. I had the front and rear valve covers done but still have a very little leak and from inspection it looks like it's either the rms or upper oil pan. I paid someone to do the valve covers but I wish I had tackled it myself, just didn't have the time. Now, I have another vehicle that I can use while I work on the Max, so I'll take my time. Hopefully it's just the upper oil pan.

The standard jacking points behind the front wheel under the front doors/fenders.
