Temp Gauge/Overheating Issue

Temp Gauge/Overheating Issue
On the way home from work tonight while sitting at a light I noticed that my temp gauge was about 3/4 of the way towards hot. A couple of days ago I noticed the gauge moving, but it then started acting normal again so I thought nothing of it. Tonight after taking off from the light, the needle on the temp gauge would go down towards cool the higher the RPMs went. I go to shift to second, and it starts to go back up again while the clutch is in and the RPMs are dropping. It did this pretty consistently, and would stay right around where it normally is when I was just cruising.
I would think this would be a gauge issue, except that the fan hasn't turned off, which obviously leads me to believe the engine is actually getting hot. I popped the hood and the coolant reservoir is close to empty, and I noticed a decent amount of coolant in the radiator area. Clearly I have a leak somewhere, but both hoses are intact and I can't tell where its coming from. I changed the oil about a week ago and the reservoir had a good amount of coolant in it and I didn't notice anything else out of the ordinary. Can anybody tell me if I have a serious problem?
