The recirculation button is stuck, meaning whether or not the button is pushed in, only recirculating air is coming out of the vents. The button light is on when the button is pushed in and turns off when the button is not pushed in. Anybody have any idea how I can get fresh outside air flowing through the vents again?

2000 SE, manual air (sliding temp control)

 

I'd recommend pulling the unit, removing the cover from the circuit board and metal box, the, taking it to radioshack and getting the proper teflon lube

 

Not very many things could do this. It is either the control panel that has the recirculate button or it is the motor that operates the door for the fresh or recirculated air. Of course the wire harness could be the problem, but that's kind of rare without human intervention..

You can get a volt/ohm meter and follow the troubleshooting proceedure starting on page HA-160 in the fsm. OR if you have a friend with the same car, borrow his control panel and see if that solves your problem.

 

When you say "unit" do you mean the control/ switch panel?

 

When you say motor are you referring to the actuator? Is that a DIY?

 

yes the switch panel.

i read your OP again...I totally misunderstood. I interpreted it as your button being stuck in the ON position. I like the most recent advice of borrowing a buddies switch panel for a trial.

if it is stuck in the recirculation position, it may be the circuit board behind the switch panel(inside the "unit") that does not send the signal to the recirculation door inside the dash.

Anything is a DIY if you have a set of brass kahunahs and no common sense. But really, I don't know how to answer you. I've never had to replace one, so I don't know hard it would be. IIRC, you can see it if you remove the glove box, but that doesn't guarantee you can get to the screws. The worst case senario is that you would have to remove the dash. You can take the dash out in 2-3 hours, that I've done.
