can p1100 be caused by the camshaft sensors?

My 2002 with 44,500 miles is performing perfectly. I have absolutely no problems whatsoever.

Yesterday the check engine light came on. I was going to pull the code myself, but since I am going out of town this weekend I wanted no delay in getting whatever-the-problem-might-be fixed. I took it to a local Firestone- I don't really have any experience with them in this city.

They call me an hour later and told me the code was p1100, and that after an exhaustive search for the problem I would have to replace the cam shaft sensors (bank 1 and 2) for $400.

I laughed and am on my way to buy the 2 sensors from Autozone for $110... But I did a search for this code and saw that the camshaft sensor gives off another code. Also, I have no symptoms in my car at all. I am wondering if it could just be a loose connector to the camshaft sensor or something.

Any thoughts? Should I just replace the sensors?

Thanks!!!

re

Replace both sensors. DO NOT BUY FROM AUTOZONE. It will be a waste of your time. I bought one from AZ..and it failed 10 miles later. You can buy them through southpoint nissan for $45 and $47 each. Pay the same for OEM.

Thanks for the response. Is this a known problem with the Autozone parts, or was it just one bad experience? I already picked up the parts, but haven't installed them yet and was going to wait until the check engine light came back on. I guess I can just order the parts (for cheaper) from the site you recommended, and then return the Autozone sensors...
