G35 info

I got a new brochure in the mail about the upcoming G35. It seems to have a lot of pluses and a few minuses. They also updated the Infiniti website with a lot more photos and data. I am very interested in this car, but only if they offer it in a 5 or 6 speed manual. According to the website, it looks like only a 5 speed auto...at least at first.

PLUSES:
* Very cool DVD based Nav system that comes up out of the dash
* 6 disc in dash CD player still standard with the Nav system
* Sleek looking dash board
* Unique looking LED tail lights
* 52/48 weight balance on new platform
* Washer nozzles under hood (yea...no freezing!)
* Slick new steering wheel design with smaller airbag
* Speaking of airbags, this car has 6 of them!

MINUSES:
* No extra HP over the Maxima
* Unlikely to get a manual transmission (at least at first)
* Stereo right out of I35 or Maxima with Bose (200 watt, 7 speaker)
* Plain looking gauges
* Xenon headlights are not standard
* No heated steering wheel (see website)
* Large spot for front license plate (whether you want one or not)
* Long list of options*

* Option wise, it looks like the list will include at least: sunroof, winter package, nav system, reclining back seats, Xenon headlights, etc.

This list of options could push the list price of the G35 up near $38-40K. This makes a loaded '02 Maxima SE look even more attractive. I really wish we knew what they might do to the next gen Maxima...

If the EVO does make it here, it will be designed to compete with the Suburu WRX. That means it will be very fast, modestly optioned (forget the sunroof, leather, Xenons, Bose stereo, etc.), get a cheap plasticly interior and be about the size of a Corolla.

I don't really think most people shopping for a G35 will cross-shop the EVO.
