Help ... Help ... parking brake cable

Ok, what am I missing? According to the chilton manual, you remove the little clip that holds the cable down, and unhook the cable. However, the cable doesn't want to unhook. There is NOT enough slack for the cable to unhook. Please fill me in, as I don't want this to turn into a day project.

Thanks guys!!!

OH btw 2000 max

Just to cover all the basis... Is your parking brake engaged? The tension must be released. Also, if you're replacing it because it is seized, you may have to remove one or two of the fasteners up the cable to remove the sleeve enough to give you slack.

I was trying to replaced the rotor and pads, man that was a learning experience. Anyhow, there's NO way to unhook the cable by just removing the clip per Chilton. You need to remove the clip, then the hold down bracket that's bolted to the caliper, then the 2 mounts to the frame. Only then, will there be enough slack to unhook the cable. The rest of the job went as planned after the cable got unhooked.

That was a good portion of the day, including running out to the auto shop for the caliper retracting tool. Needle nose pliers will NOT work either to seat the piston.
