Clutch condition with pics

Can someone please help me out since I am not good at guestimating life of a clutch. Car has 140k and it appears to be oem with nissan stampings on it. I am debating replacing it with Fidanza and exedy stage 1 during my engine swap or if I can wait till funds are lil better.

For fun pics. I thought it was pretty cool how high I had to get the car to remove engine and trans from bottom. Had to use the cherry picker to pick the front of the car up that high and get the jack stands under there.

Put a clutch in it while you have it out or you will remember this post when you have to yank it out to put a new one in.It's not something you want to do twice.

I hear you on that. Just want a general idea. If it was thought I could get another 50k or so on that I would honestly wait on getting it. I wouldnt have to worry about pulling the engine If I did the clutch at a later date.

Here is a small story. The motor in my ZX9 spun a bearing. So when I had the motor apart the shop shows me the syncros for 2 gear and tells me that they can last maybe a year or I can Under cut them and they would last forever. I decided to save a few bucks and left it alone. 4 months later I was kicking myself. Do the clutch. There is a guy here selling a new 350Z ACT Pressure plate and Disc. Do a search and take care of this now.

Thank you. My next place must at least have a drive way lol. The street is not too busy and I do whatever I can to turn a wrench not underneath it. I was just hoping the cops didnt mess with me on this one.

My plans were to go with a fidanza lightweight flywheel and decent clutch. Thats why I was hoping to get some more miles out of it so I could afford it.

Id say put in a new clutch. Its a pain to get there again in the first place, so do it while you're there.

I agree with all you guys even if I was to replace it I would still like to know the condition. I have no idea what the thickness of a new one should be.

Greatfully appreciate that. I would say looks double or so the thickness of mine looking at the distance between surface and head of rivet.

Are you also replacing the motor?? sure looks like it.

+1 replace and upgrade only way to go, unless your planning to sell the car asap.

you're on the right track with fidanza and oem exedy ($150 for the entire kit) if you're N/A...... i've had a lot of different setups and this is the best way to go about it on a DD.

I am NA. Thats pretty cheap. Please correct me if I am wrong. I thought the exedy oem was springless. And the non dual mass fidanza and a non sprung clutch would suck *****.

Ill be honest, id go with at least a stage 1, if not stage 2. That depends on your driving if its truly just a DD with not much "fun time" then you can get by. But ive replaced my clutch one time with a 350z clutch and oem type just dont cut it for me anymore. Thats one mod i regretted.

I'm running a Spec stage 3 right now and i like it. Accidentally chiprted 3rd shifting slow and easy at 6000 rpm. Thats a little of a harsh clutch, more DD would be stage 1 or 2.

Per the FSM, wear limit is 0.3mm

That's face to rivet head wear limit. I'd also replace while it was apart.

That clutch still has a little life in it. It isn't toast, but since you have it out, I'd replace it.

i would say you have 5-10k left on your clutch(depending how you drive).
your face to rivet distance is minimal.

Yeah the lexus is getting old and isnt fun. I have access to a garage but not for an extended period of time and its almost an hour away. I did the work little by little whenever I had half hour to an hour to spare. I am glad I got to it too. I want to have it on the road for the crystal mall car show so I can enter in the db competition this year again. I want to beat my 138.8 db this year.

Thanks for all the pics and suggestions guys. I am still on the fence. I honestly think im going to wait to put the engine back in after I get the clutch and flywheel since I should do it right. I waited a while so I guess I can wait a lil longer. Maybe clean up the engine bay a lil.

Prob with that is I dont want to get a clutch then replace it. I decided when I do the clutch it will be mated to a fidanza flywheel. At that point might as well be a stage 1 clutch. I cant get a clutch to match the dual mass stock flywheel and use it with the fidanza later. 2 diff clutches sprung vs unsprung.

OK can someone get me a part number or exact model that should be used if I wanted to use the 350z clutch disc and is it just my year maxima pressure plate and throw out bearing? I want to research pricing.

03-05 350z clutch don't exactly have a P/N for ya, but that's more than enough to go by.

And yes 02-06 Maxima/Altima Pressure Plate.

And I'm using the fidanza LW flywheel too btw.

Probably, not worth it to try, the HR has a self adjusting pressure plate, which methinks the clutch disc is different (Oh and dont even think about using RWD PP's)

Yah I've seen that before too, made me lol pretty hard, maybe our motors should be heavier so we wouldn't have the stock rear end sag
