That would be the pre-cats, that's the exact sound I had for 2 years before I installed headers.

Funny.

OP, that's not my mystery rattle. And I know for a fact that my noise wasn't the pre-cats, because they were gutted last month. So... interpret from that what you will.

You can hear my driving-me-to-drink noise at exactly the 28 second mark here. I think I need a new tension pulley, or a new AC compressor pulley, or a new car...

Also, check your heat shields. That sound is almost identical to a loose shield or two.

Did you Rochester feel or notice any lil increase in performance(or acceleration) after gutting those cats ?

Good idea.

Slightly louder and deeper. A little more high-end grunt which is noticeable and appreciated, but nothing dramatic. Yet another incremental mod.

My comments are all over the handful of recent pre-cat threads.

I had a similar noise. Turned out to be the heat shield on the Y-Pipe.
