you need something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LED-L...item4cf8e934bc rather than the ones with the ba9s base already attached to the led bulb.

The map light socket is wired reverse polarity from all the other sockets. The center contact is ground and the sides are +12 volts, so cheap leds don't work. If you pay the big bucks for a lamp from SuperBriteLed, it works either way. I've often wondered how they do that.

The MAP light is for sure ground triggered so I suppose it's possible. They do it one of two ways, the universal adaptor is reversable, OR, they use a series of diodes to allow the LED's to function the same way a incandecent does, that's how many of the sealed LED's are wired.

i know for a fact that this works

All you have to do to get the light to work is to either use a soldering iron to pull the LED out and switch the polarity of the bulb or on the connector take off the cover that is in plain view off the front of it and use a narrow pin to pull the connector pins out and switch them around that way you don't have ghetto spliced wires when you don't have to.

The one on the left goes in the map light. I'm wondering if you are thinking about the one on the right.

The Maplight uses a bayonet-bulb design, so you can't just turn the bulb around, like you can with wedge-bulbs. If your new LED bulb doesn't light up, then simply cut the harness wires and crimp them back together again swapped. Did it myself about 2 years ago.
It's not rocket science.

Unless you buy the ones with universal connectors

Also, why bother with any of it when you can just buy a LED board with universal plug? They're way better for the MAP light application anyways

True true, just make sure you pull the fuse or disconnect the battery before wiring, that MAP light is surprisingly high Wattage, and if it surges weird and shorts out you could potentially fry the SECU, rendering pretty much all the extras in your car useless, including the keyed entry and alarm.

i have only converted turnsignals, Daytime running, and ignition key ring, and door courtesy lights, so far and they were all plug and play but i went out and bought everything else map lights, dome, gauge, and trunk and heres what happened...
dome worked fine, and map and trunk did not...
to stay on topic, why did my LEDs not work for the maps then... just the polarity??
heres what i bought ->https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...ofit-car/2077/
thanks for any help! i didnt think the lights i bought were duds....

so it looks like I bought polarity sensitive, and not non sensitive ... so is what tuner is mentioning is what I do to my bulbs to get them to work?,
or should i return and just get the right non polarized ones?

thanks Dennis.

moral of this thread in 2015..... make sure you get non-sensitive polarity LED's because these map task bulbs are reverse polarity and regular polarity sensitive LEDs do not work regardless of direction.
