Never say never, any part on the car could fail before its time.

This is what the FSM says about P0420:

Three way catalyst does not operate properly.
Three way catalyst does not have enough oxygen storage capacity.

Possible causes are:

Three way catalyst
Exhaust tube
Intake air leaks
Injectors
Injector leaks
Spark plug
Improper ignition timing

My cat failed on me when the car had 120K miles. Just get warpseed y pipe and remove the bank 1 cat, unless you're in California.

It might be caused by the P0011 problem. Anything that affects clean combustion could be the cause of or contribute to the P0420.

This is what the FSM says about P0011:

P0011 - Bank 1 Intake valve timing control performance
There is a gap between angle of target and phase-control angle degree.

Possible Causes:
Intake valve timing control solenoid valve
Harness or connectors (Intake valve timing control solenoid valve circuit is open or shorted.)
Crankshaft position sensor (POS)
Camshaft position sensor (PHASE)
Accumulation of debris to the signal pick-up portion of the camshaft
